Sunflower seed specific bacteria?

ok, a few weeks ago I was prepping some wbs, normally I sift out all the floaters and sunflower seeds.

but this time I was at the bottom if the bag so I wouldn't have enough for a full run if I sifted out the floaters/sunflower seeds.
needless to say I opted to keep them "what could it hurt?"

according to my journal I soaked for 26 hours in a 25% liquid coffee solution.
then pc'd for ~90 min.

these jars and a few left over from a previous batch (8 in total, 3 had no sunflower seed)
I inoculated them all via g2g from 1 quart jar 4 days ago.

this is the first time I have checked them since.

at first I was delighted to see them all 60-80% done but upon closer inspection I noticed these little green patches only on the sunflower seeds its not trich it looks like bacterial boogers.

but as I said its "only" on the sunflower seeds, I scoured these jars and not even the grains there touching are infected.

I know it wasnt my pc or how I was using it, and I clean it often to remove mineral build up.

I tried getting a pic but it wasn't worth posting.

is this why we are so diligent to remove all sunflower seeds?

first explain to me how you remove all the sunflower seeds.

cuz no one else removes theirs

true there are generally a few that slip by.

I have never had this happen though.

the only thing I did differently was leave the floaters and sunflower seed and as I said there only on the sunflower seed, albeit not on every one but the majority of them.

e: just had a thought, is it possible that the floating sunflower seeds might have had much higher than normal concentrations of bacteria seeing as how they were exposed to air for so long?

I thought the only reason the sunflower seeds were removed because by volume they do not offer as much nutritional content as the rest of the seeds, not because they are prone to it's own sort of ailments. And that it's not really all that necessary to remove, as it just means a larger spot of sunflower seeds will not colonize as quickly as the rest of the jar.

i do not believe there is a sunflower specific bacteria. even if there is, the pc cycle will destroy it with the rest of the shit it kills.
i do scoop the majority of sfs's floating in my water, but not all. they contain lignin, which shroomz love.
so...i don't know what went wrong yo. you need to cook up some more, tho.

I'm thinking it may have been the ones that were floating.

when I soak in coffee solution there are often small bacterial colonies floating on top by the time 24 hours has passed, that's why I dilute to 25%

I have done wbs countless times, this is the first contam I have seen.

I am glad I did the 3 other jars or I would just assume it was the master jar but their beautiful.

and after inspecting the 3 jars that I did exactly as I had so many times before, the few stray sunflower seeds look fine.

if I'm wrong someone please correct me, but I feel this is the most logical answer.

did you rinse the seed before prep or anything, or did you just use it from the bag?
24 hours seems a bit long to me. i don't even bother soaking my seed for more than an hour or so, but when i did it was more like 12 hours and never longer than 16.
but i'm just guessing here. because as long as your sterilization temps and times were correct and proper, that grain should have been just as sterile as the batch before it.

yes I rinse thoroughly, there may have been a few bits and pieces that didn't get through the screen but I doubt that would affect anything.

I have always done a 24+ hour soak
followed by another thorough rinse
for simmer I add the wbs to a pot at a hard boil then cut the heat stir for a minute allow it to sit for 5-10 min then pour it on to a window screen.
allow to drip dry, load and pc

we have known for a while that pc'ing doesn't kill all bacteria present, wich is what leads me to believe that these floating sunflower seeds might have had exponentially more bacterium because of being exposed to air and too many were still present.
