You don’t have to be a citizen to vote in local elections in a number of towns around here. My county is 30-40% foreign born. You don’t think people should have say in how the community they live in is run?

If they're not citizens yet, then no. They shouldn't have any say in anything unless they're American citizens. Allowing illegals to vote or drive are terrible precedents to set and is just plain irresponsible.

definately not if they came illegally. if they are a legal, perminent resident then possibly. if they become a citizen then without a doubt.

Ok. She didn’t say anything about illegals voting tho. I have no problem with legal immigrants voting. There was a time In American history when this was common.

Municipalities in Maryland where noncitizens can currently vote in local elections:

Garrett Park, Maryland (since 1999)[67]
Glen Echo, Maryland[68]

that article is lie. Stop falling for right wing propaganda. The bill is about non citizen voting. Which is awesome. People who live in a community should be able to have a say in the leadership of their communities. There are towns around here (almost all of the localities that allow non citizen voting are in Montgomery county) are 30-50% non-citizen. You think they should have no say in what happens in their own towns?

Towns like Chevy chase, somerset and Garrett park are some of the wealthiest towns in the US. It’s not like these laws are bringing down the fabric of society.

It's in the context of HR1. I went over HR1 and didn't see anything that would allow illegal aliens to vote in federal elections.

Since voting in federal elections by illegal aliens is prohibited under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, I think it would have to be explicitly repealed.

I'm guessing Tyler Durden runs out of toilet paper and is determined to figure out how illegal aliens and Democrats are responsible.

You dont think that slowly giving non residents more and more voting rights wouldn't lead to them voting on federal elections?
Give an inch take a mile.
If you get to vote on small municipal elections that would probably pave the way and make cases for them to have their voting rights broadened. I think its a slippery slope and a bad precedent. Dont let them vote on anything until they are lawful citizens. Thats probably the best practice.
