Growing Competition! * 1
    #25849570 -

Hello everyone! I decided it would be fun to host a little competition. I havent decided submission or end dates yet but will update soon. I just wanted to get an idea of who would be interested. I will be providing prizes to the 1st place winners of both categories. The prizes will include general cultivation supplies (bags, agar, petri dishes, scalpel blades) and some nice edible cultures! (and possibly more depending on how generous Im feeling)

The general idea is to see who can grow the largest mushroom. Hopefully the winner can clone the genetics of a freakishly large cluster or single mushroom.

RULES
1. There will be two categories (gourmet/cubes) with a winner from each!
2. You may not include any pieces of substrate attached to the mushroom. They must be cut off before weighing.
3. provide well documented pictures or updates. (not really a rule but makes it more fun)
4. Any mushroom goes. You could grow lionsmane, reishi, King Oyster, ect.
5. cubes may only be a single mushroom not an entire cluster
6. please do a new grow because it ruins the competitive aspect if you have years of grows logged
7. Timestamp your harvest/grow, the harvest is the most important.

Prizes!
50 unicorn grow bags
20 plastic petri dishes(1 sleeve)
scalpel + replacement blades
malt extract agar mix
edible cultures. undecided, I need to refresh my plates.
possibly more!

Everyone has untill April to get registered and their cultures set up then another 2 months or so to get their grow done. Just reply with what categories youd like to compete in and I will add it to the spread sheet. I have never hosted a competition so input or advice is appreciated!

JUNE is the deadline for all entries.

I wonder what varieties will do the best.

I'm in.  I've gotta get the spores going but I have a print that tends to put out beasts.

I'll play. I think we need some more ground rules for the cube side of things. Does it have to be first flush? It's a lot easier to pull big ol beasts off of later flushes. Maybe it'd make more sense to make the cube test a "best first flush dry weight off 4Q spawn and one serving CVG."

Love the idea. I'll join for cubes. I've never been able to grow anything too crazy but I have a lot of grows starting up so who knows.

that's a good point too. Do we just get one tub to pick from or can we grow a shitload and just announce the biggest fruit?

My very first flush was one 156g mushroom from a 64qt SGFC. It was some bacterial WBS to CV. Idk why it produced one biggun. Yhe workd may never know... anyway weird things happen so I say leave it as the biggest any which way. Gotta start with some fruits then we shall see the biggest of them all. Sometimes we all grow a little mold.

Grow as much as you want. if youre using multispore you may have to do a few trials in search of good genetics for this application.

I was just going for the biggest thing you can grow. Lets see what some other people have to think about that.

Hell, I'm in for cubes.

Is this biggest by volume or by weight? Also, yes, the question of blobs has come up, can we submit blobs?
