My hepa is probably boned...
    #25751862 -

Hey party people, been years since ive posted, but ill be damned if i haven't been around. Its rare i need to post, as there is a wealth of salt and misinformation on here for me to gorge on- but i digress, i love shroomery; been on here since age 13 to current age of 27...you do the math.

So, ive got a 24X24x11.5 flow hood. I had it in a lab i build in a damp basement...i let it sit inoperative for about 6 months down there. Ive sinced moved, and slapped together a new lab in my garage. I ordered some spawn which should be here late next week. I was poking around in the lab when i noticed the wooden walls of the hepa have green mold on them. The outside is all sheathed in plywood ive painted white, however the exposed wooden inner wall of the hepa has the mold. I doused it in lysol, but deep in there behind the foils i still see the mold. Im almost certain im fucked here, but its Friday and im going to cook up some agar this weekend. Ill let you guys know how it goes. Any ideas on how to run a good test? Any ideas on how to fix this problem? i would like to verify its status before i open the spawn bags in front of it. maybe it will be okay near the center? cry for me? kill me?

Fuck.

It's fucked. The hepa material itself isn't inert to mold. If the wood molded the filter material itself is undoubtedly compromised

Make some control plates if you feel the desire to test it.

definitely sounds fucked but.... if it's already fucked then there is no reason not to fuck it up trying to fix it. I'd probably spray it down with something crazy toxic, let it sit for a bit and then run it for a good couple of hours. scrub off any mold that you can without puncturing the filter and then do a test plate run.

I have a predictable update.

I started peeling the hepa apart while considering trying to resheath the filter media and i found more wretched evidence of how helplessly fucked i am. Mold everywhere it can be, and to my eye three kinds, yellows, greens, and blacks my friends, its a rainbow of disaster. No test needed here boys, shes boned.

I will scrap out the mechanical and electrical (blower and switches) and buy a new filter so that i can use the spawn i ordered before it gets all old and piss yellow in the fridge (should be showing up later next week.) Relax, i can fix anything, all it takes is time and money!

Heres my filter pick^^^ all told with shipping a $145 expense. As you can see, its an all metal construction, which i recommend from experience *sob*. it is also my intention to make a magnetic cover plate for this one (if the metal is not ferrous enough i will fasten magnets within the neoprene gasket. This will not only prevent contamination but will also protect the filter. I would cap it and then immediately flip the off switch, suspending the filter media in its own sterile air.) Ive been unable to make heads or tails of the specs for the filter off the website of the manufacture.

https://www.ncfiltration.com/hepa-filters/

I called them up and left a message. Ive poked around this site and other reviews of them and am aware that if i get a call back at all it will be in a great deal of time, and time is what i lack (and money too of course, im in 400$ on this thing in its current, useless form) Im inclined to assume its 1" w.g. and just buy the thing. this 1" figure would work out perfectly. Does anyone understand this chart? Help here would mean a lot.

quick math - 20 inches x 2 feet = 3.33 square feet. So, i need 333 cubic feet per minute at the unknown static pressure of this fuckin filter, a little higher preferred to accommodate a pre-filter, to get the desired 100 feet per second for a laminar flow. Link to the stats of blower im using listed below.

Anyone who wants to know stats of a random ass blower theyre looking to buy from a seedy back ally source should check to see if grainger sells it, because grainger always as nice stats on their blowers, and other equipment, just a tip.

Now for the question that obviously has no answer because i lack the proper data. HEY GUYS, WILL THIS BLOWER WORK WITH THIS FILTER? i think it will. any feedback is appreciated, im going to let this thread marinated tonight and buy it sunday morning (no rush, as processing wont begin till Monday anyway)

Thanks for the support boys, watch this space as i will update this with before and after photos for our amusement, and as a message of support for anyone who finds them self in a similar situation. Theres never an excuse to give up, you just find a solution and cut your loses. I am probably like most of you, where i am consumed by this hobby but no one i know cares nearly as much, so i will share the experience with you in exchange for your time, attention, and guidance. We are a community of strange strangers, are we not? If you don't hear from me, i probably jumped off the roof. This blows huge bulbous donkey balls.
