Mildew smell is gone but see a couple of specks. Coir eruption or pin mold?

To quote Kizzle:

Mucor
Sources: Soil, Plants, Air
Often referred to as pin mold for the grey to black sporophores which look like tiny pinheads. It's appearance is very similar to Rhizopus. Commonly a contaminant of spawn and less common in bulk substrates.

β˜†It typically won't colonize coir/vermiculite substrate but the sporophore may grow to the surface directly from the contaminated spawn below.β˜†

Rhizopus
Sources: Soil, Air
Odors: Alcohol, Sour
The fastest growing of the common contaminants. It's appearance is very similar to that of Mucor. It is also capable to parasitizing damaged or aborted mushrooms. It often produces large volumes of aerial mycelium.

I am about to toss a tub that I'm pretty sure IS the back pin mold.
Its an Ecuador MS to agar, 1 transfer made, and I clearly cannot tell clean myc from bacteria yet.
This tub got a yellowish slime on the side of it, aerial  myc within days of spawning, well before the 10 day run.

May be hard to tell from the pictures, but there are clearly little back dots on the tips of the wispy myc crawling over my sub.

I have 7 grain jars im about to toss for the same reason, I G2G what I thought was clean culture. the jars are all a dim grey, and Im seeing the black dots up against the glass now.... =/

Anyways, I hope my situation helps to identify your own, assuming I'm right about mine being wrong

I don't see it... and would likely still get fruit... I fruit from spawn in unmodified tubs with the lid flipped for FAE with better and faster results than sealing up the tub for a spawn run... mushrooms and mycelium are aerobic organisms that require oxygen for healthy growth

Tough luck on the jars, those are a loss... but I'd keep eyes on this... pins yet?

Looks like grain pressed against the glass... slightly bacterial as well, id suspect your grain was loaded too wet

Ill post It there and see, I haven't really looked into it much. This is one of my first times with agar using pastyplates. I cloned a chitwan fruit to agar, and thru some transfers I've got 3 shoeboxes going healthy so far ( I think)

Just seen the dots today a couple hours ago, Im still going to probably toss the tub, idk how this stuff spreads

likely so, I followed FooMans tek and didn't stress having the seed surface dry as I have in the past
Ill be attempting oats next

It's already in your house: started there... it was in the spawn, we spawn in open air and thus our substrate is full of contaminants from that day forward... we generate spawn in sterile conditions so that we have a healthy living culture present that has a chance to  colonize the substrate before contaminant spores have a chance to germinate and grow to be an issue ... with proper sterile technique in a SAB, you can grow mushrooms in a mold haven

Highly suggest drying oats overnight... seem slow to start, but really gets going after a 4-5 days

Day 12 from spawning to tub.

Mycelium is thick on top but when I poked my finger into a corner of the substrate it's still brown underneath. Sub seems moist but not wet. Myc is reaching up a bit but no knots. Given that the sub is still brown underneath it obviously is far from consolidated.

I loosened up polyfil in all 6 holes to improve air exchange but it still has a little mildew smell.  Moisture condensation on sides seems adequate.

Should I case this? I initially chose not to after reading a thread saying it is unnecessary. RR says casing is needed to maintain humidity at the surface which is necessary for knotting.

It's day 12... calm down

Knots anyday now, you can case it, or just monitor surface conditions (which should be done even with a casing layer)

I have pins!

Considering how brown my sub is looking I had all but given up on this little tub.

But like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, all I think it needs is a little love.
