Agar to grain colonization question

I was curious to know the best way of colonizing grain with agar. I’ve done it where the agar was between the glass and grain, also where the agar is in the middle of the grain. What would you say colonizes quicker? Agar against the glass, or in the middle of the grain, or does it matter much? Does it hinder growth if the agar/mycelium is buried inside the grain, or does it branch out the same?

Check this link out.

Myc is going to grow outwards in all directions from the innoc points so against the glass with agar would not be ideal as far as I know, but i'd let someone with more experience chime in here.

I’ve been cutting my agar plates into four sections and dropping all four slices in there and shaking it up. I was just wondering what’s better, against the glass or not. I notice a lot of people try to get it to where the mycelium is facing the grain and back of the agar against the glass, maybe I’m overthinking it...

I’d say up against the glass is good for watching it expand but in small pieces spread throughout the jar would be quicker as it can grow in all directions from multiple points.  I like to quarter mine as well.

Ahhh I see. So the against the glass thing is more for viewing the growth? I have a couple pieces close to the glass and most inside the grain. If it colonizes the same I’m not to worried lol. I was shaking for a while trying to get all four against the glass...
