First timer, substrate cake colonization question
    #480085 -

Ok, this is a simple question, but its my first time and i am making sure everything is perfect... when you poke the four holes in your colonization jars, after boiling them and adding the spores: during colonization do you leave the holes open? or tape them up? would you change any of that if you turned the cakes upside down? Im making the cakes tomorrow 12-4-01, so a response by then would be great, thanks.

I always tape the holes back up after innoculating, and then put the jars back in the box they come in and leave them in there. After they reach about 80% colonization, you can also take the tape off and flip the jars to help get some of the CO2 build up out of the jars. But I seldom do. I like to leave the tape on, I think it helps to keep any contams out.

Good luck

i just leave all the holes open, havent had any problems. if you flip em the verm layer on the top should seal them up pretty well as well.
