Colonization Question
    #433204 - 10/22/01 11:31 AM (22 years, 11 months ago)

FOAF has 3 PF/PF race cakes that were innoculated 4 weeks ago. They are about 90% colonized. They are still growing, but we all know this is a long time. They are inverted w/ no tape. Also, they are in some direct & indirect light. Beside the time, there are no other problems. Is this okay, and can fruiting still be expected?

Is it possible that PF's colonization time frame of 2-3 weeks is a bit idealized? I've usually seen it take 4 or 5, even if everything was seemingly perfect. If not, what can speed colonization?

Yes, indeed. As you have discovered, individual results will vary. I'm big on home ground brown rice, a good moisture content and a vigorous spore syringe. Add to that, a humidified incubator at 85 degrees, and you've acheived your ideal.
