I'm unsure, but I know they clone easyerly onto agar.

you would have to force them to fruit in order get spores...
start with a cold shock and make an outdoor patch....

Truffles are sclerotia, not fruitbodies, so are not capable of producing spores. They are capable of reproducing on agar, as Loki said, or in a liquid culture, such as a jar of karo water. To accomplish this, a small sterile peice of tissure from the inside of a sclerotia would have to be extracted, then grown out. Then fresh substrate could be inoculated with the culture.

If you are intent on producing spores, then the kit should be placed in a terrarium with plenty of air exchange and light, and possible given a cold shock as Prisoner#1 suggested. It's possible that under these conditions the kit will produce fruitbodies, from which spores can be taken.

You are saying there is a blackish spore deposit in the stone hu?
Is this due to stones being scruntched up fruit bodies, and producing spores?
Or some sort of contam? I havent knoticed anything spore like in
stones, but who knows. you could be lucky, and this could point towards stones being just underground fruitbodies like true truffels.

But im more inclined to think that stones are just water storage
units for fungi that evolved in semi arid enviroments.

If the black deposit is in fact spores, try to streak some on a plate.

Am I reading this wrong and ramberling lol?

And if they do fruit, dont be picky with what ones you wanna print, because chances are you wont get a large amount of fruits. When I grew them,I fruited some and out of 2 bags,I got 7 shrooms total.Lots of stones, but only 7 fruits.

Butternut squash are softer than acorn or other types of squash, which makes them easier to cut and prepare.

As far as I'm aware, sclerotia are structures fungi use to preserve themselves through periods where environmental factors make growth extremely difficult (e.g. flooding). Sclerotia are extremely hardly, and can re-colonise areas where the "parent" fungus has been killed.

thanks for the replies

but well this is all messed up because, like i said, i bought a grow kit of  PS and it has been standing for 2 months and the instructions said max 3 months. i havent opened the kit once and followed instruction carefully like i alsways do when i start with a new thing. but i found out now when i opened it that it was contamned, the inside of the cake thing they grow in that has been covered with rice and some black things (this was what i thought was the truffles loki my bad) was green\yellow nasty lookin something and there was only a few truffles

ARGH im gettin all this shit today heh maybe im goin to bed early :frown:

Yes, agreed, thats sort of my thoughts too. Though they
certainly resemble squashed up fruit bodies though.

Actually, just for the sake of intellectual interest, I've been reading up on it and apparently the sclerotia of some species of fungi do in fact produce spores :tongue: . I think however that none of the psilocybes do.

Yep, most true truffles are spore producing, but the stones from Psi species arent considered true truffles.
I myself can see what appear to be caps, and stems, moulded into stones when I look closely at a stone though, but i
have never seen anything to look like gill, or spores.

I really want to get a clone of spanish Psilocybe semilanceata, as
I once heard a rumour that it forms sclerotia, this would be a great
thing In my quest to home cultivate Psilocybe semilanceata.

according to guzman psilocybe mexicana does produce some sort of asexual spores.

I don't think they would be restricted to just the sclerotia, but any vegetative mycelium.

Fruitbodies produce spores that have undegone meiosis.

Spores produced by a fruitbody are not the same as spores produced vegetatively.

Sclerotia do grow fruitbodies under favorable conditions DIRECTLY. I had one form a mushroom in a peroxide soaked tissue inside a plastic bag. The sclerotia got smaller and a mushroom was attached to it. Mycelium had also spread to the tissue.

I think the ooze that comes out of the sclerotia might be a vehical for vegetative spore dispersal, while also serving to harden the outer layer of the sclerotia. I think I am going to check some ooze under the scope for content.

truffle= fruitbody, it is the structure that gives the sexual spores of the fungi. These are meiospores, ascospores.

Mexicana produces vegetative structures called sclerotia. These may produce arthrospores, asexual spores, which can be produced by any hyphae. They are not sexual. The sexual spores are basidiospores, meisospores, produced on the basidiocarp=fruitbody.

truffle=ascocarp
fruitbody=basidiocarp

truffle=fruitbody which is not a sclerotia.

Arthrospores are asexual spores. They are individual cells that have broken off from the mycelial colony. They are not the product of meiosis, but are clones of the donor hyphal strand.
