Philosophers Stones
    #1062515 - 11/18/02 12:13 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Ive heared a lot about Philosophers Stones , but I cant figure out what kind of strain this is. Is it simply the descriptive name for "sclerotia", used by Coffee Shops?

yes, philosopher's stones are the sclerotia of psilocybian mushrooms.
not all species produce them but, Most notable, P. mexicana produces them plentifully. sclerotia are masses of fleshy tissue growing beneath the substrate layer. they contain mush less water and are capable of surviving (somewhat) extreme conditions such as drought, flood, cold, heat, ect, better than the mycelia. since certain species produce these in abundance, they lose less weight in drying, and can be grown without need for a terarium, many people find it productive to grow them. i believe there is a link on MushMush to a detailed procedure for producing them. Una is an experienced cultivator who seems to enjoy growing them.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
