The more knowledgable can correct me if I'm wrong. I believe Philosopher's Stones are used to refer to sclerotia, which are dense clumps of mycelium formed by certain species as a defense/survival mechanism. Psilocybe Mexicana and one other common one do this. So you should order those spores. It is much easier to get sclerotia formations than fruits with these species.

AD: Half right . Philosopher's Stones refers specifically to the species Psilocybe Tampensis which forms sclerotia, where the mycelium forms sort of rocks, which in nature is used to survive through harsh weather and then to begin growth again after harsh times have past. The sclerotia of Tampensis (& mexicana) are 3 times more potent than the fruits of the same species. However with philosopher's stones (Ps. Tampensis) sclerotia forms in jars after 6 months as opposed to Ps. Mexicana (aka teonanacatl, aka flesh of the gods) which forms sclerotia in 6 weeks in jars.

As said above, sclerotia "rocks" form after an extended period of complete darkness. These can be eaten, and have a sort of peanut-like texture.

Spores of Psilocybe Tampensis can be found at www.sporeworks.com as well as more information on Psilocybe Tampensis (not to mention great info on many psilocybian species  way to go workman!)

Hope ive helped

Actually, philosopher's stones only take about eight weeks to grow to a nice size, and after twelve weeks the yield is even better. Camel, I believe you are getting that information from the Cultivator, which I think is in error. Six months for Tampanensis sclerotia is way too long. Soulman, check out the Spore Works for Tampanensis spores. They're a bit pricey, but they're a fun species. Stones are actually easier to grow than cubensis, and the high is nice and mellow. Definately worth checking out...

Placebo: No it actually is 6 months... That is why for many Mexicana is more desirable...

I believe workman a while back posted info about his 6 month venture of forming sclerotia of Tampensis, and TMC has no error in it (nor does any other publication that states 6+ months).

And of course I would have no experience in cultivating Ps. Tampensis (only in dreams ) because growing psilocybin/cin containing mushrooms is illegal in the country in which I live, the US. So any info I post should be taken from theoretical experience I've had with Ps. Tampensis.

There is no error in TMC but there is a problem with the interpretation of the time required for tampanensis stones. The six month statement refers to a picture showing tampanensis sclerotia harvested after 6 months. It doesn't say that it grew the entire six months. The specific growth parameters lists (if I recall correctly) 6-8 weeks for sclerotia formation.

Yep... Straight from the man himself

The key though to success with sclerotia forming is absolute darkness. It's tempting to look, trust me, but ya just cant do it..

I have heard alot of great things about this species...however, i was wondering what the trip is like. Does it live up to its name? I love the philosophical trips...
