Yeah of course, I've read maany of his posts & stickies. Legend. My heart dropped when he said things are looking bad, but hey, its a learning experience. I just checked on them now, I left the lid more open over night and things I think are looking better. I'll post some pics in the next hour or so.

Looks like you’re on the right track. The left one looks good to me, a lot healthier. Keep a eye on that right one though, and if it gets much worse you may want to separate them. Other than that the pins look like they’ve been growing so that’s a good sign.

Thanks man, the pins have been growing for the last week. I've read people get mature fruits 3-5 days from pins. It seems as though these have at least 5 days more going at this rate. Is it ok for pins to take like 2 weeks to fully mature or will it rot being left growing for so long?

The pins may have been stunted due to over-saturation of your blocks. If they don’t develope any faster In the next couple days of letting them have more FAE I’d be worried. May have some aborts on your hands.

I’ve noticed when I made the mistake of giving to much water caps would open prematurely and pins would abort. I have been able to recover some in the past by easing up on the misting, and giving them more FAE as you’re doing now.

Keep us posted on the progress of the growth to get a better idea. They do seem like they are taking longer to mature than most.

Just put the right one in a separate tub. I saw some yellow liquid forming on top of the mycelium on the overgrowth parts. I dabbed it with some paper at first, took a smell and that was it. Closest thing I can describe is like fermenting period juice mixed with mushroom.. YUK! I am paranoid now that shit will be inside my lungs, I feel like I'm smelling it all the time, prob in my head.. When lifting the cake I inspected it and smelt it from the under side, smelt fine. Hope I don't get any infection or bacteria from that stuff.. pew

The yellow liquid you’re describing is most likely mycelium metabolites, (aka myc piss). It’s the myceliums defence against bacteria. Kinda like our white blood cells. It often shows up when the mycelium is stressed, or in your case bacterial. As long as it’s not turning green yet you should be in the clear. Just keep a eye on them.

Bacteria and myc piss definitely doesn’t smell pleasant... Post some pics tomorrow sometime of your pin development.

Nice to see the pins grew quite a bit overnight. Here is how they look this morning:



I can see fuzzy feet with some, suggests more fae if I'm not mistaken.

The thing I have no clue about is some shrooms are getting indent stems. They are kind of caving into themselves and making a gap, like here:



Anyone know what this is? Genetics? Too low water content? Thanks!

Sometimes you may get some oddballs. I wouldn’t worry about it if it’s just a couple shrooms showing those signs. They should still mature. I’m guessing that one split from to much water, but I’m not 100%. Could also be verticillium.

Your pins and blocks are looking much healthier now though :thumbup: glad they are growing more for you.

Did you get another picture of that block that wasn’t doing as hot? Or is that just the healthier looking one?

Hey MadHatter, really appreciate the attention! Thanks. This is the one cake that was doing better. I've given up on the other one in the state it was in. I've got in dunked in water right now and pasturizing coir + verm. I'm gonna shred it and do it in a shoebox 1:1 ratio. I don't expect much but hope something comes out of it. Do you think I should cover it up and wait for full colonisation? I'm seeing most people put them in fruiting conditions at birth.

That’s not a good idea if your block was already contaminated. It’s already lost a lot of energy and nutrients fighting off the bacteria. You probably won’t even get full colonization of your substrate before it contams out on you causing more of a headache.

I’d personally just scrap that one at this point and use your sub for something more fresh. Do you have anything else in the works right now?

It's done! I already did it before reading. Tbh I won't feel bad if it is contam, just a trial to making a bulk sub more than anything. If it works out and I get something, thats a +. If not, I'm not gonna get pissed over it. I'll post some pics in an hour or so.
