I like WBS, and it's fairly easy... But I think I'm in love with oats. Though WBS seems to leap off faster, the growth on the oats seems so much cleaner and organized... alot of it depends on the prep and the culture though, I've seen pretty WBS spawn too, but not as consistently with oats

I thought it was just me, or my wbs and oat prep. Wbs=faster but ugly myc for me. Oats=slower but beautiful growth. Get more flushes from oats too. I still think it's in my prep. My wbs is always a bit too wet.

Wet wbs gets spores growing like nobody's business. Problem is it's riddled with bacteria. My very first time using agar was grain to agar. Still growing the cleaned up version of that to this day.

Thanks for the tip 👍 I've been using a blend of BRF, bran, and nutritional yeast, with some verm, for cakes, for trays, breaking it down and bulking up with promix, verm and BRF, then casing with promix and verm, I've only ever worked with straw and grain before, I'm putzing around feeling out something new, WBS and Oats will definitely be on the shopping list!

Too much shit for my liking... plenty of nutrition in the grain, and coir is sufficient for water retention alone... anything beyond that is an unnecessary vector for contamination IMO

I've been pretty lucky with contams and work super clean, and I agree, aside from also being a pain in the ass dealing with cakes, mind you, breaking them down and bulking them seems to work out fair enough, but so many extra steps and yes for sure far more opportunities for contams.

Bulking cakes is fairly contam resistant... the cakes consolidate and are added to sub mix containing little to no available nutririon... you get that far, you're golden so long as your cakes are healthy

👍 the tray that got wet (ghetto humidity system and was absent for a couple of days) is two mini pucks crumbled up in promix and verm with a little leftover brf mix, grew it out then cased it with a little promix and verm.

I wouldn't use uncolonized brf, it's far too nutritious, making it susceptible to contamination

Since I was growing out tiny cakes into trays Ifigured they'd need some food, I throw them back in the incubator and let them fully grow out, then case them with a non nutrient,

Bod's Easy AF oat prep ... I dry overnight... there's plenty of food in the cake, water loss is the issue... set them in a tinfoil tray with. 1/4" of water midflush to give them a drink
