pins on overgrown casing
    #447710 - 11/05/01 12:53 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

After 4 weeks, my casings are pinning!

However, the casing is completely covered in cotton ball like mycelium, and it's looking a bit dry.

Should I mist the casing? Will this damage the newly formed pins?

I don't want to lose the lot now.

Do not mist pins. They will abort.

Hi Goldtop! Great to here that you've got those pins finally happening (bloody puertos) - if you want to add moisture, when pinning on a fairly overlayed sorta casing, i use a syringe to squirt some water in the tiny areas where casing is still visible, or if necessary, areas where there are no pins forming on the mycelium...

Bluemeanie,

Do you insert the needle into the casing?

If the casing is completely white then misting is going to have trouble getting into the casing at all.

If it isn't, and the casing substance is really dry then you can water it. Try to water around the pins. If that isn't possible just water it all but leave it out in the open until the pins dry before putting back in the terrarium - so they dry out.

Yeah - i dont touch the casing with the syringe, i just use it to water precisely - just to avoid getting too much water on the mycelium - if its not completely covered with mycelium - as the previous post says - give it a water and try to avoid those pins.. Have your pins formed caps yet??
