Mildew Smell in Sub Tub

Put my rye spawn to cvg sub 4 days ago. The tub has 6 holes each 1.5". Two on ends up under handles and two on each side 4" up. All have been taped closed. Today I cracked lid to check progress. Myc looks ok but mildew smell is fairly strong. It has been kept between 70 - 74°. No discoloration or apparent signs of contams.

I put polyfil in upper end holes. Obviously hoping to save it. What's the consensus?  I have read in other threads that the myc may still prevail.

I'd probably try for some fruits, if its all had

Are you sure it's not just the smell of mycelium...... Because your tub looks fine...

It's definitely a mildew smell.  What does healthy mycelium smell like? Hopefully giving it some air will dry it out a bit. I will push on as this is my only tub right now.  I have some healthy looking myc growing on MEA in dishes so will be starting a new batch soon.

I am looking forward to this crop because it's been awhile and I really need to get out of my head. Lol

There is a faint smell of mushrooms close to the myc but the mildew smell up higher overpowers it. Maybe it's just on the trashbag liner? We'll see.

Just wait fam. Looks good to me. Just be sure to give it plenty of FAE and make sure to keep your tub dialed in so that adequate RH is maintained.

Well I've got the poly in and there is light condensation on the sides. The myc looks good but there still is a strong smell of mildew. We'll see how it turns out.

If you're not seeing contams yet you can probably get something. I would not expect a second flush, and actually wouldn't try for one. Watch closely for mold, because it's coming. Examine every fruit well to make sure it's food-grade.

Yeah I'm not going to expect much from this. If I don't get fruits from it soon I'll get it out of the place to keep from infecting everything. 

Here's how it's looking today. Mildew smell is mild but persistent. Mushroom smell is faint.

Hopefully!

I took a shower after that last post and a strong smell of mushrooms came into the bathroom.  Any speculations as to when I might see some pins at this point? The room is about 65°f at night and 70° daytime.

(Pacing like an expectant father.)

Depends on a few factors: the aggressiveness of your culture, conditions, and spawn ratio... anywhere from 10 days-4 weeks from spawn

I have some cvg left in my bucket so I stuck my nose in to see what it smells like.  It has a sweet, (this may sound strange) chemical tar smell!? Must be the verm and gypsum. 

Anyways my tub definitely smells of mildew. I have backpacked and camped much of my life and unfortunately know the smell of mildew all too well.  I followed Frank's tub tek and mudafukas improved bucket tek but my sub may be a tad over fc. Like I said above I taped the tub up for 4 days before checking it and when I did the mildew smell was strong. 

In the future I think I will start with 4 quarts of water in the bucket initially instead of 5 and add more to bring it to fc.

Definitely a head scratcher.

Likely excess moisture... keep eyes on it, but it looks great
