To hold or not to hold, that is the question.

Hey guys, so I purchased these cakes from an online vendor, with the bags. I left them from 5 days in the bags provided and they seemed really dry, nothing happening. From an older post, I was advised to dunk them and build my own SGFC as I did to spec. Dunked for 12 hours, rolled in verm and placed in the FC. 2 days in there, things were looking dry and I taped up most of the holes. Humidity was better, but maybe FAE was lacking.

On day 8, I decide to get a new tub and fill the bottom with soaking wet coir and have the lid upside down. It's currently day 9 of fruiting. So here are the pics:

Both cakes:

In total, I see about 5 pins from both cakes but they are looking unlike any pins I've seen. Here is how they look:

Pins looking strange?

So it comes down to this. Do I continue as I am going? I was thinking of dunking with 5% bleach, shredding the cakes and spawning them to a bulk monotub. Maybe its a waste of time with vendor bought mycelium? I dunno, feeling like its all going to fail. Any tips would be really helpful!

P.S I forgot to add, the pins on the one cake showed about 4 days ago and haven't grown since then. The other cake with shiny mycelium started showing 1-2 pins yesterday.

Bleach will kill your mycelium, whatever it is. Yes, looks funny.

Id hold on to them until they fruit or u see contams. Patience is key in this hobby! Don't do to much to them this point just let them be. I know it hard lol In the humidity changed they shouldn't get dry. Check them once a day to make sure though and wait a few weeks. I still think ull get some shrooms from them just wait a few weeks.

Hey Apc, thanks for the reply. I guess you are right, nothing more I can do. I thought maybe if I dunk and shred them and make a bulk grow it could be better? IDK. Its really strange, the surface keeps drying up. Im only lightly misting the surface whenever it seems dry, i.e no glistening top.

So, I decided to take Apc's advice and hold on, really glad I did. Here is an update. Pics were taken approx 20 mins after mist + fan. I'm seeing alot of pins on one cake. All pins look abit different to ones I have seen on many posts. The caps are looking really dark brown and the stems are kinda brown/streaky, not white. Any thoughts?

Cake 1

(clusterfck? lol)

Cake 2

This one seems it wanted to colonise the casing and got really puffy snow mycelium. There is 1 fat pin on top, its grown but really slowly.

Any tips would be great, happy new year to everyone too!

I thnk you may be misting way too much. If the cake was drying out the mycelium wud turn blue. And craploads of misting doesnt acrually rehydrate the cake. Nit that you thought that, but i did.
How many times a day you mist? You got most the holes on you chamber taped over?
As far as fae i wud remove the top twice a day and turn a box fan on facing it to super FAE that shit.

Just guessing:
Seeing mycelium growing again could still mean too much CO2. Did you adjust your FAE?
But on the other hand the stalks are short. With too much CO2 they should be long and thin.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I mist a maximum of lightly misting 3 times a day and fan it with the lid for approx 30 seconds after each mist. I only mist when I see the surface dry up. I have the cakes in a humidity chamber, soaked coir in the bottom. After I saw the pins develop I tilted the lid (that was upside down) about 30 degrees and there are some quite open parts in the corners.
