question about mycelium.....

is it possible to stick a jar with the cake covered with mycelium in the freezer to stop the growth of the mycelium until you take it out? would the cake die, or would the cold just freeze the growth until you took it out. also, how long does complete colonization of the cake take? thanks

the water would crystalize and most likely the cell walls of the mycelium would rupture destroying the mycelium.

In reply to:

Just stick it in the fridge, the freezer will stop growth, forever. In reply to:
also, how long does complete colonization of the cake take?
What size jars, what type of substrate, what temps for incubation. The way you asked the question is the same as me asking " I put a full tank of gas in my truck, how many days will it last?"

Skikid very inteligent response
But could you answer my question?
How long should my jars take to colonize? The substrate? Long Brown rice (only) Colonized like 15 days ago, there are a couple of white spots on each cake, some big, some small... my jars are 500ml (like a pint).... how much time for full colonization u think? I don't know strain, it's a cubie strain of course. and temp... welll... let's say, I live in quebec, my room is in normal temp, I enveloppe my jars (4) with a tshirt, and then with a , u know that thing, u take a shower, then u wipe ureself with it, like a huge cloth, i forgot the name ... (Mj makes u stupid, and forget) anyways, then my jars are in a rubbermaid container.... in my closet... I cant tell u temp, why? because i dont have a thermometer, and no stores around me have any....

LOL, that is hilarious . . . a towel. I just started laughing so hard . . . you Quebecquois are never willing to learn English as well as French. Haha, just kidding though, I surely have respect for Quebecers just as well as any other Canadian (that's not a joke, I've played hockey all my life). Oh and similarly, I can't remember how you say towel in French, and I took 4 years in high school. Not quite the same, but I still feel retarded.

Please, please tell me english is not your primary language, cause if it is, you're not a stoner, you're a mongoloid, , I think the word you were looking for is towel?. But to tell you the truth, I've never used brown rice as a substrate, I've used brown rice flour. It sounds like either you are keeping your jars too cold, if so, look here http://www.myco-tek.com/TEKs/Incubation.htm Or there is something wrong with your substrate (too much water, not enough water, poor sterilization, unseen contam) Or your syringe wasn't viable, OR god just hates you, its alright, he hates me too.

Yeah, so I was reading the post about the heater thing, I got a question, uh where the hell do you buy h202 ?
And... I read this: A radiant heating source is ideal for this application since dry forms off heat (e.g. a reptile heating pad) achieves its increase in temperature by robbing moisture out of the surrounding environment. This is exactly what you don?t want to happen to your jars of spawn since they must have plenty of water in order to thoroughly colonize the substrate. If a dry form of heat is used then you can expect your jars of substrate to dry out before the mycelium has the chance to fully consume it. If this happens then the mycelium will not be able to finish colonizing the substrate and there isn?t anything that you can do to correct this problem once it occurs.
Read only the last phrase, it's about the substrate drying out.... If this happens then the mycelium will not be able to finish colonizing the substrate and there isn?t anything that you can do to correct this problem once it occurs.
(Now that's a bitch, Im scared, what if my substrate dries out!!! IM DOOMED!!!) It's going soo slow... do you think I should inject some water through the holes? Id heat up the syringe of course...

So what is? (just curious)
You should really look into building an incubator. Its cheap and you will definitly notice the difference. Oh and next time, try out brf/verm, you may be suprised.
