Please. I'm asking for help, Nothing Grows Past 1" and takes forever
    #25705506 -

Hey All,

I have read and read, books, posts, watched videos, done just a ton of research on growing mushrooms. Otherwise there would not be mushrooms growing uncontaminated in my fruiting chamber. So I have done the work to look for answers on my own. I just can not for the life of me figure out how to get my fruiting chamber dialed in. It takes over a week from the time I see pins for anything to grow to an inch in size and then they seem to stop growing at all.

Please, no one will help me on this site and I don't know why. I have posted questions and have not received a single reply.
I mean, if I have offended the Shroomery or its members I sincerely apologize. I really do not know how if I did offend anyone but I am sorry.

I see now that I posted in My Journal when I meant to post in Getting Started. Apologies to if I offended, didn't mean to do so

Please Help. I can not afford to change up my set up at the moment so I need to make what I have work. Everything seems to work fine until my cakes are done pinning. It is the fruiting that I am having trouble learning.

I had my SGFC in a pantry that I made room for by taking out one shelf, removing the door, and hanging a 6500k light inside. I was reading a post from someone who also had their SGFC in the closet, and RR told him/her to TAKE THAT OUT OF THE CLOSET! I took my SGFC out of the closet as well right after reading that post.

This is a week of growth from pins to their full glory seen here. I just do not know why they will not grow past this really annoying tiny stage. I mean some have furry feet some do not, like wtf wtf wtf. Im so frustrated. I have tried to mist more and fan more, I have tried fan less and mist less, mist more fan less, fan more mist less, and nothing changes.

This is 24 hours prior to the first image.

Temps - 75° - 79°
Humidity - according to my crappy 2 dollar hygrometer its 60 - 70 RH but who really knows.

The only thing I can think of is that I smoke. I have began smoking in the bathroom with the fan on, even though I read that it does not make a difference(https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13788905#13788905)or(https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/26758).

Thank you

Way too wet and not enough air flow man. Let those things breath. And if ur misting, slow down on that alot

But if that's 24 hours they're going to get bigger. Just let them breath more and grow for a couple more days

Actually ur holes are fine. Stop misting so much and just let them grow. U shouldn't have to mist at all from this point till harvest

Dont mist full fruits imo.

75 is like my max temp.

Are there holes on the bottom of your tub.

I'd prop that sgfc up higher for better airflow, soup cans are good.

It's from misting. The fuzzy feet are spiked which is from actual water. If it was from bad air flow the fuzzy feet would be softer fluffy mycelium

Lack of air try fanning at least four times a day.

Stop misting them and crack the lid.

Those should grow pretty damn big. Mine that were that fat and short, I opened the lid some and went to xmas at my dads. Came home 30 hours later and they were 4x bigger.

I have been battling the same problem--and received the same advice: stop/slow misting and increase airflow...heeding that input, I can say my second flush is definitely working out much better.  I have stopped misting (my humidity range is in the 90s), I fan a lot, and I crack the lid for periods of time.

That's looks like wayy too much perlite too imo. Cut the perlite in half and cut the temp down to 70-75 degrees.

No way thats a perfect amount of perlite.

4-6 inches

But agreed with the temps.

OMG OMG, Thank you sooo much for replying to my plea for help.

I have been misting a lot. Probably every 4 hours while the lights are on. I just can't keep my hands off that dang squirt bottle. I have it in my mind that I need to add mist or add humidity to make them grow. I did read not to directly mist mushrooms while they were growing. But also not to let them dry out(keep moist layer on caps) but that may have been bad advice. I will stop misting.

Should I keep the walls wet with beads of water? I have read to do that and to not do that so...

I realize now that you mention(The fuzzy feet are spiked which is from actual water) that the ones that have little or no fuzz are growing on the back corner of the cake. This area would have been blocked from getting the majority of mist I was spraying into the SGFC b/c of the angle. I had become curious about this area b/c of the major pinning that happened there, and I was trying to figure out why pinning was so successful in that particular area. I had come up with the theory that gas was building up in that area which caused a nice pinning environment but I need more research, I'm probably totally wrong haha.

Yes there are hole spaced out 2" from each other on the bottom (all 6 sides)
ok ok, temps are another thing I was having a hard time finding a straight answer to. Its been at or above 75° the entire time. I will take it down to around 70° - 74°. In your personal opinion, what is the lowest I can safely have the temperature?

LadysKnight
If you think I need more height it's a good thing you did not see older pics haha. I have lids hot glued to the bottom of the SGFC, and yesterday I added another lid to each leg. Doing this doubled the height from 1" to 2". Dang Dang Dang, need more height, ok will do.

Things I will change/do
I will raise the SGFC up to 6" off what it is sitting on
Lower the temps to between 70°-74°
NO MORE MISTING! Especially on mushrooms

I read that I needed to keep the cake moist so I added a casing on the bottom, and then just the other day I added that blob of verm on the top of that fruiting cake. All the other cakes have had double casing since birth. I hope this will provide enough moisture to sustain the cakes during fruiting now that I will not be misting.

I can not thank you all enough. I hope we can keep a dialog while I progress through this fruiting process.

SGFC's are not meant to be walled in on 3 sides.  If you move the SGFC out into the natural airflow of the room then that will also increase FAE.

You can mist fruits. Don't just stop misting. Slow it down.

They do need more air though.

Everytime i mist full fruits they Bloch bad. When I mist pins I do a light mist.

Your surface conditions should be kept up on until you have a pinset after that what's the point in misting. That's why we have bottom watering.

Sometimes fruits can dry out, so I mist them. Especially in Winter when the RH is down and my gas heat makes it worse.

I've never had blotches from misting fruits. Lots of FAE fixes that.

You can have the perfect conditions for it but if the spores you're using pops short boomers then that's just genetics and there really isn't much you can do... except maybe have bigger cakes/substrate. Cakes normally put out small fruits. Small fruits are supposed to be more potent by weight anyways, I wouldnt really stress about the size too much.
