You can mist fruits. Don't just stop misting. Slow it down.

They do need more air though.

Everytime i mist full fruits they Bloch bad. When I mist pins I do a light mist.

Your surface conditions should be kept up on until you have a pinset after that what's the point in misting. That's why we have bottom watering.

Sometimes fruits can dry out, so I mist them. Especially in Winter when the RH is down and my gas heat makes it worse.

Seriously..I keep a humidifier in the room that I fruit in because of this. I wasn't even able to maintain beads on the walls of my mono. Im at 3 layers of tape now and pop the humidifier on every couple days.

I think I may have had high expectations for my first time around. I see all these pics of cakes just covered with nice mushies and I want the same for my cakes. The reality is that I will need to learn to walk before I can run. Now that I have a line of communication open and am becoming part of the OMC, things will make more sense soon.

Dilaudid
I have been wondering the same thing about genetics. There is just so much to this hobby - it will take me a long time to learn. Until I have the knowledge and experience to rule out all of the issues associated with the growing process, I will not now for sure if genetics are the culprit. I will for sure order some other strains to grow for comparison.

Anyway, I off to learn how to properly use the quote button.

Ok so for humidity.

Some posts say - no need to be overly concerned with humidity.

Some posts say - keep humidity up around 90%

What the heck? (both experienced growers)

Is humidity subjective to the strain, growers location, or cakes vs. tubs?

If someone can refer me to a real good book or post(s) so I can really understand the why behind the reasons for humidity I would be super grateful.

It's surface conditions and substrate wetness more than anything. People have different styles, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

:whathesaid:

You mist to keep your sub/fruits right. The sub and/or perlite provide humidity.

I've never had blotches from misting fruits. Lots of FAE fixes that.

Your fruits should never dry out.

That means your sub or perlite is dried out.

Misting fruits then increasing fae just seems pointless and extra work with no real benefits involved.

My rh is like 20 ATM and the only reason a mushroom will dry out is if it pops out the layer of tape on a bottom hole. But again it's just that mushroom the entire rest of the flsuh is fine.

Well IDK what to tell you besides they do dry out. My flushes are fine so I doubt I lack water. Sometimes it just happens.

I also don't run unmodified tubs. I use Poly and holes. Very little Poly at that. They get fucktons of FAE.

Hey all,

Ok so roughly 24hrs after the advice I received from Shroomery

They have grow pretty much 1/3 in size in the past 24 hours. It may not seem like a lot but considering they have been growing for over a week it's huge. It seems like they are going to grow thinner and longer now that they are getting better FAE and lower temps.

Am I right in thinking my mushies would have grown the way they were, it just would have taken a long time? So long in fact, that the substrate and perlite would have been almost totally dry of moisture. Or like super short fat mushies maybe? Or would they have just rotted on the cake waiting for FAE to happen?

I watched a 72hr time lapse of GT Blue Meanie on BRF cakes in a fruiting chamber exactly like mine and it was amazing. The mushies went from pins to nice big guys in the 72hrs. What really had me wondering what I was doing was the fact that no person was ever seen in the video. No misting or fanning or nothing ever takes place. Unless the guy/girl who made the video edited out the fanning, but I dont think so b/c the lid never changes place at alllooks like they did edit it haha, should have watched closer. There are also no signs of moisture in the SGFC at all. It's a curious video. Watch it here if you like:

No it really has not. I ate all the mushies on the cake last night. It was amazing! I was surprised that I got so high because there really was not a lot of weight, maybe 13g max.

I dunked the cake for the night and re rolled and put into a smaller SGFC until it has a good pin set. The reason for this is because I don't want cakes in mid fruit with cakes just birthed/re-rolled.

Here's the super good news!
All the other cakes I had in the pics are pinning and fruits are starting to grow. I can see already the difference in appearance of the fruits due to what I learned here over the past few days. Well... over the past couple months actually but talking with you all really helped. I will show pics of the fruiting now that I fixed my misting obsession, air flow, and temperatures.

New Fruiting Area

Day 3 since first sign of pins on rolled cakes and 3 days since I put the in-verto pinned/non rolled cake into the chamber
