Rahz said:
“No matter if the science of global warming is all phony, climate change [provides] the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world.”
-- former Canadian Environmental Minister

That's bizarre.

This hope for "equality" is irrational. Humans are indeed the most wacky species.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

so basically the psychology of climate change is the psychology of power and ignorance.

yes, your words makes 100% of reality, and are complete and utter truth; no hyperbole at all, I PROMISE, that's not what it looks like, not in the least!

Quote:
What does this demonstrate? Absolutely nothing vis-a-vis the factuality of climate change science. Only one of the people quoted studies climate change and he does so from an economic perspective. It is not exactly a revelation that politicians look at science through the lens of its potential advantages and disadvantages for policy; and the above quotes are tame in comparison to the endless fountains of ignorance spewed by the world's climate change skeptic politicians - who incidentally happen to virtually all be in the GOP and a handful of right populist parties in Europe.

do you ever wonder what your thumb tastes like?

the people who made those quotes ARE

repeat after me

THE EXPERTS

i don't understand what you don't get about that.

let me make things abundantly clear:

Quote:

EXACTLY. and yet it's still being pushed for by everyone but who?

right...Trump. and everyone wants to what? right...

support the creepy think tanks. :uhoh:

even if Trumpo was CIA ooga booga man, uhhh, aren't you all playing right into their hands?

nah.

nah.

Precisely, get used to deferring to the right experts, to the people that manage to get in the spotlight to once and for all answer the question before the court.

The lack of ability to immerse into matters with the least bit of scientific detail forces the general public (including legislators) to choose an expert and stay, instead of investigating the matter and coming to an understanding of it. (why not pick the one that supports your best money making schemes especially if people can't understand, and you can quickly bully them into acquiescence if they do)

So if you position a few experts politically, you can catch the wave and control those who defer and Bully those who are not so easy to squash.

I am not happy with judges who put people's fates in the hands of the odd expert that agrees to testify. Legislators putting all our futures on the line with bad policy are even worse.

Science is not done that way (thank God!) we do not pick one expert, we look at the whole thing.

This comment adds detail to the political aspect of the psychology of Climate Change Deniers.

blah blah, that isn't even a response to what i said, is it....

here i'll reiterate, AGAIN, because this is the common trend

people act like they don't know how to think out an actual response, so they blurt out some NPC nonsense

i have to repeat myself

wrong
that is the psychology of repetition
POW!
more REPETITION POW!

- almost as brutal as the Interrogation room.

bullying hurts, it's more than psychology, it's brutality.
I do see some of that happening in the whole keffuffle.

even here, I might add.

focus on the problem

Quote:
We have built prosperous societies on the extensive use of fossil fuels, but now know those same fuels also threaten our survival, requiring us to reimagine how we power our way of life. It is as simple and as difficult as that. And our debates, forceful as they are, should focus on the reimagining part. All else — the presidential free-associating, the tweets and the TV soundbites — is noise.

literally no one ever said "let's not work on alternative energy".

nuclear energy, too. everyone is looking at the options befit to look at. alternatives are not perfected, and Trump, for your information (you seem to be lacking in that) ran on jobs, not "i hate alternative energy".

no, he ran on "American jobs are being lost to the pursuit of slashing energy production in the US".

When you're involved Trump usually gets mentioned.

I'm interested in the psychology of people who can't fathom that people who have differing opinions are anything but idiots.

The psychology of people who lump everyone with the "wrong opinions" into a single group of others.

The two big perpetrators of this nonsense are Democrats and Republicans

I've seen some compelling arguments but so many more are garbage when it comes to climate science. Whenever I talk to a Democrat specifically about climate I get called a republican and associated with all that. Any time I talk to a republican about climate change they tend to say I have good points because they like that I think a lot of the science is really poorly done and they want this ammunition to use in arguments. which is pretty sad as well.

I'm fairly confident those two groups of Americans are the most significant obstruction in the way of accurate climate science and solutions stateside.

you may say that but your "evidence & research" posts are littered with cherry picked crap and you wear your heart on your sleeve in your posts. You clearly have a bias to a party line not a bias to unbiased evidence. You'll easily condemn legitimate science that doesn't say what you like, and that's not science like bro.

don't agree with you and I'm probably a republican even though I loathe both parties of American politics

so all this distraction suggests that climate change denial is 100% political?

i.e. it is more about the party than the idea, and even though I am not American, you first slot me as someone who is not Republican, and then too tired to look at issues specifically, you fail to discuss the matter now that my "politics" is settled, even if I do not have the politics you project upon me. I am in another country for god's sake.

That would be prejudice, not very bodhisattva like.

Nobody's opinion here matters one bit. (that's right not even mine).
it is not even just a US issue.
There will be more sea level rise, ocean temp rise, ocean acidification, Glaciers melting & coral bleaching etc.
& There will be more WORLD  summits.

Serious folks trying to convince other serious folks,
Or perhaps, serious folks trying to convince other angry folks,
or just maybe, angry  folks trying to convince other angry  folks,
in this thread, imagining something (reputation?) is at stake;
reminds anyone of the old (half true?) quote:

"Life is a tragedy for those who feel,
and a
comedy to those who think."

Anyone who has even just dipped their toe in the water
of the vast literature on communication knows,
that folks are persuaded best after rapport is built.

Debate, by the conscious mind (ego) (usually devoid of empathy)
would seem to (usually - other than in a math class, court room, etc.type situation)
be the least effective way to teach / convince anyone (of) anything.

But fighting seems to be the default mode, for the gender
that runs mainly on testosterone, so to expect otherwise,
would only be another folly.

So let the fight begin again!
Place your bets!
Ring the bell!
Round 1001 begins!
Pray for blood and concussions!
