So why would they be selling this product on a mushroom growing website under the category of 'Bulk growing materials'? Clearly this product isn't the same thing as fertilizer. And I'm sure they wouldn't be selling it if it didn't work, otherwise they would have no returning customers.

I dont think mushrooms use much nitrogen. Dont they eat mostly carbon?

But like i said. Test it out.

I'm not sure how much, if any, nitrogen they need, that's why I'm asking the question. But no, they don't eat carbon as such, they digest the substrate, absorb oxygen, and expel carbon dioxide, as I understand it anyway.

Hmm. Theyre decomposers so i assumed fhey eat carbon. Consuming the substrate would make them like, idk.

I wasnt saying it was a stupid question. Just brainstorming.

There has to be a reason why they're selling this product but I'm just not sure why. I know, obviously you can grow cubes without it, but maybe it helps? Or maybe there are other mushrooms where a source of nitrogen is more vital, and that is the reason they're selling it?

Adding a supplement to a 5 coarse meal is not necessary imo as I mentioned.

And that product doesn't seem have a name and has practically zero info about it on that site.
The product is called "slow releasing nitrogen supplement" on that site. That doesn't sound like the commercial name of that product if you ask me :shrug:  Im really curious to know the name I would like to know what that stuff is.

Never heard of it, never seen anyone use it for cubes and nutrition wise it shouldn't even be able to compare to mother nature's grain such as rye or brown rice. But I'm really curious about what is in that product and how it interacts with a bulk substrate.

Thank you everyone for the responses. A fully colonized jar was split between new birdseed and remaining went into a bowl with just coir. The bowl is already popping through the top casing but the jars are taking their time.. Fingers crossed

But dont worry the start is easy with all the ppl around here.
On my first bulks i make the same mistakes i used horse poo
and i got all the lovely colors in the tube but no pins XD

The bowl mixed with just pasteurized coir and fully colonized wbs is 7 days in now. The bowl has been left in the monotub FC, lights 12/12, misting in morning and evening. No colonization on top casing layer but three pins popping through. Humidity in room isn't great as static is always present. surely there are more pins underneath. So is it OK that the coir casing didn't colonize? And is that preventing other pins from appearing? The casing is still damp, should it be allowed to dry out to let pins through or kept moist? Can the bowl be left in the FC tub for the duration of the fruiting process?

Did you use coir to case it? I don’t think that’s recommended, coir works better as a substrate.

It would be a unnecessary and potential talky bad idea.
Fruits will start to develop just fine under the top layer and will eventually pop up through the coir as they grow :thumbup:

Two grew and veil broke. Both taken out and dried. 8 days after the bowl was spawned. At least there is something to show for it with hopes of a few more. Jars are 50% already and those will go into monotub... 8, 1/2 pint jars 2 quarts coir with 1 quart hpoo pasteurized.

The previous tub attempt was not allowed to fully colonise and went right to FC. This one will be given that time. Messing with the tub to observe every minute's progress, allowed for contams to move in.. First attempt lessons learned. The bowl should occupy the need for fucking with shit.. A good pinset is the goal with productive flush not one or two at a time.

Your spawn wasn't clean if you didn't get a flush out of it. Once you spawn your grain jars sterility is no longer needed, people fruit stuff in the open air, without issues.
