Bag full of diaper gel, hydrated with liquid nutrients, wrapped in layers of polyester or some other non-organic fabric.  Grow the mycelium so that it scaffolds on the material wrap while sucking food and water from the well protected center.

That's my theory.

I don't think the sub will be as reusable as we all hope.  My guess is that the mycelium will partially degrade the synthetic material, weakening it for future runs.  Might see one or two runs out of it.  It is a good experiment to test the capabilities of different nutrients.  This will be a good one for data collection for future experiments.

I dunno about that, this material is supposed to be non biodegradable. I have had mycelium grow up the sides of 1000’s of pp5 containers, never had it break any of them down. I do imagine it will wear out eventually but I think it will be a lot more than a few uses.

I am currently also working on a biodegradable version for all you environmentally conscious people. I expect that will break down after a few uses.

What about the issue of microplastics? Humans are found to be full of it from water bottles, dont drink nestle, to consuming tainted wildlife. What's the possibility that mushrooms are at risk from microplastic particles from bags, containers, etc? I would be especially worried about a synthetic microfiber mass breaking down compared to a solid pp5 container, but I never gave much thought to this before just meow.

Not trying to pry at info, but I'm going to assume it's a polypropylene material.  Some plastics react different based on their form.  By that I mean  comparing a pp5 container that has a .125in thick wall, to strands .030in thick that are woven or pressed together.

I have some history working with non-woven HDPE, making and processing it in to various forms for use in different hygiene products. Pushing the plastics thru dies, in to hair like strands, turning it in to fabrics.  In larger masses it didn't react to certain parameters(heat, chemicals, etc) like it does when it's in a fine strand.

Not saying I'm right, as I don't have the same experiences with a polypropylene based material.  Im very intrigued to see how the material holds up.

Do you plan on casing any of the early tests?
