An Shrooms enthusiast from India.
    #25590597 -

Hi Guys,

This is my first time here, looking at the resources here, i think i am gonna stay here for a long time to come.

I am trying to gather information on mushroom cultivation for educational and informative purposes.

I saw a few videos and read a few guides , which gave a lot of information. But from an actual cultivators point of view quite a few questions remains unanswered .

I wanna ask here as i try my hand on actual cultivation for study purpose.

The first query is the temperatre here is between 25-32 deg celcius in winter . So which strain should i select for cultivation.

Also i read that temperature should be 80degree F for pin head formation ,which means about 25 degree celciusm which is the lowest range .

I want your views on this . Whther mushrooms could grow in this temperature.

I want answers specifically for temperature and strain and if i am clear about it and i may go ahead with this experiment .

All other queries will be asked later at proper intervals, as i dont to mess my mind , which it is already is after reading the no of steps involved.

Hoping for some help

Thanks.

Hi There,
Welcome!

Are you from southern India? Where it is warm all year round? I have traveled around Kerala quite a bit :smirk:

There are many strains of psilocybe cubensis, but all of them grow in similar conditions. There really is no best strain. You could try a strain that is native to India though, like Orissa. Essentially, you live in conditions that are already good for any psilocybe cubensis strain to grow. They grow naturally in the tropical parts of India. The only time you have to worry about temperature is if it dips below 60 degrees ferenheit (15 celsius).

Because you live in a warm climate, you may have to worry about contamination (mold, bacteria, fungus). But all people working with mushrooms have to try to control contams. If the weather is humid enough, you may be able to grow them right outside!

Anyways a good beginner strain is Golden Teacher. Or like I said you could grow a strain like Orissa or Malabar Coast that are native to your part of the world.

Good luck! Have fun!

If you plan on growing outdoors I suggest growing a strain that is native in or around where you are growing them. I am growing a small amount of Nepal chitwans which is near your region of Karnataka. I am growing indoors because I am Nowhere near that region..

Indoor growing is more difficult because you are trying to mimic Mother Nature and the appropriate condition for the fungus you are trying to grow on a small controlled scale. In nature, good bacteria help keeps threatening contaminations at bay while life grows. There is no protection other than you as cultivator when working indoors. Even the greatest cultivators in the world still get contaminations rarely. Stay safe and stay stearile. Good luck

This is my first grow, so will grow GT indoors , i will innovate other methods may  be later if i succed here.

Right now my worry is avoiding contamination .I will use PF Tek .From what i have read contamination can happen mostly during Spore syringe prepartion.

Is there any videos here which shows how to disinfect a SAB , spraying a sab and then working in a sab .

I am trying to learn as much as possible before i begin.

very smart Raj, do all the learning you can now in anticipation. cultivation is like learning a lot of little parts of a song, you master these ups and downs of a piece of music on Shroomery, but then you gotta slap them all together and run through the music all at once.

work inside a SAB is mostly just common sense and minimaxing your time spent exposing your work to septic air. if you can, use your SAB in still room - closet or bathroom - this will double your ability to drop a rooms contaminants before you work with your jars/syringes. ex. keeping your unnocced jars on the left hand side and nocced jars on the right (vice versa if offhanded), never placing your gloved hands over top of a jar or plate, etc

it will be gained by experience if you aim to learn and improve, so don't worry. you will get contams, but as long as you troubleshoot them all and learn there will be fruits to your labor.

Oh plus its from your country, gt is from Georgia i think one of our southern states.

Depends on how clean the syringe is, agar is so simple dude a kid can do its how you get consistent results. Id compare it from riding a bike to going to a sports car.

Raj, there is nothing wrong with trying PF tek for your first grow. I think the chance of success is good. Agar is also awesome, but I would not transfer an agar wedge to BRF. It would be best to transfer it to sterilized grains, prepared at home in a PC. if you aren't ready for that, doing regular PF tek with a spore syringe and BRF jars is a perfectly acceptable place to start. Many people do it with success. Golden Teacher is a great strain to begin with. I find it to be very resistant to contamination. I also recommend Orissa since it is native to your general region.

When you start, you should update us with your progress! Good luck!

Agar is fine with me as i may not be able to generate a clean syringe out of the spore print.

i am reading about grains, the common grains mentioned in this forum is not so common in this part of the world, like rye oots and wbs , i m looking at whaeat , brown rice or millets .

Lots of reading to be done before i begin and i will keep asking queries as i progess.
