Re: Grain Jar -MYC or mold. [Re: batprince]

When he was talking about misting he wasn't talking about the agar, he meant the bulk tub.

Yeah, don't worry about keeping it in the dark. As far as the bag, next time you're better off trying to find some kind of clear plastic tub or tote of some kind. That bag will need some kind of gas exchange. Put a few holes in the top of the bag or leave it open a small crack or put some micropore tape over some holes or something. Most people if they're growing anything in a bag it's usually a spawn bag and then once it's colonized to put it in to fruiting start giving it a lot more fresh air, opening the bag much more and start misting like he mentioned above and either giving it natural light or a 6500k light on a 12/12 cycle.

These are the pics from my tray. Its 1 tray only. And 7th day of colonization, Pls have a look and let me know if everything looks alright. Also suggest when to put it into fruiting conditions.

did sm reading on colonizing and fruiting conditions. And this is what i gathered.

1-maintain CO2 higher during colonization and introduce more FAE while you put in fruiting.

2-Mist and maintain surface moisture througout the colonizing and fruiting stages. There is no changes reqd here during the 2 phases.

3-Natural daylight doesnt causes issue during colonizing, but introduce artificial 6500k light for 12 hours in fruiting phase.

3-Temperature and humidity is not an issue.

pls let me know whther my understanding is right, and also any other things i should keep in mind.

Those trays look good, maybe a bit to wet though

You can allow FEA from day one of bulk. No need for co2 build up. The only reason to restrict air during colonization of bulk, is to keep it from drying up

You only want to mist to maintain surface conditions. So no scheduled misting. Take a light and shine it on the surface, you should see tiny beads of water, only mist when this has dryed up. Over saturation can be a problem too.

A window works great for light. No artificial light needed.

This is from a grow I did a couple years ago. The window was there only light. I never opened the curtain

If its very cold it'll slow down colonization.

Yeah, for one or two little trays some natural light or indirect natural light will generally be plenty. If you start running a big tub or two you probably want to find a 6500K light. But like he showed above, even multiple tubs can manage on indirect light. They definitely would benefit from some more light though.

:whathesaid:

You've got probably a couple days yet before that's fully colonized. Looks good though. If the tray is sealed up then you wouldn't usually need to mist it while it's colonizing. If it's wide open then yeah, you'll need to mist it to keep the moisture up.

In India he definitely won't have to worry about it being too cold, haha.

Colonizing & Fruiting Basics [Re: vikingsc]
    #25836016 -

So not to irritate the members here with my questions , i am getting what all the wonderful people out here are saying , but as i continue reading elsewhere in this forum , some new queries are arising in my mind .This is just to get my basics right.

what about knots/primordia, which i believe is a precursor to pins, are they formed while substrate is in colonizing conditions or they form once fruiting is initiated.

No, i have started worrying for the conditions are getting too hot now.

Ideally you want the entire substrate colonized before it pins so that the substrate has the network to facilitate the fruits. Sometimes it'll just pin when it wants to and there's not much you can do about it. Proper surface conditions throughout the entire surface during colonisation is your best bet to an even pinset.

So in short it can be either or. Many people used to wait until after it started knotting and/or pinning before they put it in to fruiting conditions. Most people just put it straight in to fruiting conditions right after full colonization these days. No need to wait until knotting or pinning. Some even just put their stuff directly in to fruiting conditions right at the time of spawning these days. So you won't go horribly wrong if you put it in to fruiting conditions early. Sometimes they'll start coming before it's fully colonized.

Disaster or is there still hope. [Re: vikingsc]
    #25846825 -

This was my first grow and when i passed the sterile phase into the non sterile fruting phase i taught success is just a matter of time , but alas disaster stuck and i didnt notice until its too late.

This was the pic on 1st week of bulk colonisation. And members here confirmed it looked good .

But today after about 12 days it has turned into this.

Now i believe the myc is overtaken by other molds.

My objective of posting this is to try and know what would have caused this rapid takeover of healthy myc by mold , and what i should do to prevent this in future.

Also is there any hopes of getting some shrooms out of this know or should i discard?

Thanks.

The mold has been in that grain/sub since always. If it contams that fast you can be sure it's because of dirty spawn

Should I throw away, or can I hope for a few fruits? It smells shrooms though.

You can keep it as long as you want to keep tending to it but if there's any green in there there's little hope of any  fruit popping up worth saving before it's completely trashed.

:whathesaid: If it's green this soon, the mold will take over before getting any fruits. When there is only a tiny spot of green then sometimes you can dissect it off without losing the whole sub.

Is it green or just poor picture quality? I see yellowing from drying perhaps but less so a green spore patch

If not, then your grow should be fine
