Location: Cummings Ga

Habitat: heavy pinestraw area in a woodland just a bit off trail..

One of the coolest ones I have came across to date...The purple color is mind blowing 😱

By what I'm reading they are not typically found in this area...also they are usually edible but they look like something you would eat if you want a early funeral!! 🤣😂

I see one registered find of the species in your county on MO.
In any case, it is not necessarily a 100% exact identification, but I name it from what it (in my eyes) looks closest to.
Proper identification of species in this genus is very often a task for the specialists, there are many species with
purple to violet colors, and quite a few are variable in appearance and sometimes difficult to distinguish.
It is always important to expose the flesh in stem and cap, as well as noting any specific odor.

I don't believe there are any confirmed toxic purple species of Cortinarius. I'm not sure if C. violaceus is categorized
as edible because of taste or from the fact that it isn't toxic. Then again, one should be 100% sure on the id before consuming.
