This tek is on the AMU teks list. I was considering using it to make a syringe with live mycelium to shoot up some BRF jars. Has anyone tried this tek? Are there better ways to do it?

Not a good idea imo, LC is already so easy to fuck up even with Agar and breaking up a cake in it is almost certainly going to lead to contaminations.

That is a kind of LI - Liquid Inoculant - called a slurry. A recent tek with working pictures is at https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25472957

You can inoculate both grains and cakes with that.
