Do all contaminants have odor?
    #698348 -

I decided to open up and "carefully" sniff a few of these jars I have that, as a newbie, I can't tell if the small, dark areas in the mycellium are verm or contams. The jars are 13 days old now, but I could not detect any odor from them. Does this mean that they are probably okay, or are there some nasties in the world that have evolved into not giving off tell-tale sign odors? Also, are there any DIY, makeshift tests that a non-scientist/lab tech like myself could run to assess contamination possibilities?

Moe, thanks for the info. But I also understand that mycellium isn't always "pure white" either, which is why I can't tell if the jars are okay are not.

Try the contamination forum next time.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. It's not good to take directly smell your jars if you think they are contaminated. You can get very sick(and even die) from inhaling contaminated mold spores.
