Do all contaminates have a distinct smell??

My cakes were growing very fast but all of a sudden have started growing very slowly or not at all. I was told contaminates can do this and also be invisible but give off a very strong odor. Is there a contaminate that stops growth without showing itself or giving off a bad odor?? Or does anyone know how i can get the mycelium to grow again?? any suggestions will help!

i was told to look for a smell like alcohol(something fermenting), a particularly sweet smell, or a pirticularly bad smell

Dude, if your temp is at 86 dont do a thing, you said there only 2 weeks old in your other post! i've seen jars take 6-8 weeks to fully colonize. Dont freak out your jars might be ok. like i said, wait acoulpe more weeks then freak out!
don't get off the bus yet!

remove tapes on holes (or whatever that is covering it) and flip your jars.
This could help if the slow down is caused by lack of oxygen.
