Mycelium thinning out?

I'm growing for my first time. I innoculated 10 jars on 6/15 and have no signs of contamination. I've read all possible faqs/teks and check the message board almost religiously. I noticed that on some of my jars, the mycelium has almost completely covered the entire substrate, however it appears very thin and I can see the verm/brf behind it. I was wondering if this is normal and I should just wait it out or if this means mycelium has stopped growing, etc. My room temperature is 72 degrees and I use a heater on a 3 hours on/off low setting. The jars are stored in a cardboard box on top of a cooking rack with the heater beneath it to avoid too much heat exchange. Any help would be appreciated. I'll try to post pics if I can get a good shot.

Sounds fine to me. some strains are like that. I am always able to see Verm/(i don;t use BRF but same thing.) you will notice it more if there is no room near around the sides of the jar for it to grow over.

Hey there,
Radiant heat probably would have a tendency to dry out your cakes so consider another method of getting them warm. That room temperature is quite cool for this time of year unless you are really using strong air conditioning, live way north or in the southern hemisphere or are off the planet . I would seek a warmer spot to place them during the colonization phase. Did you compress the BRF/Verm. mix very much? That stuff can turn to a very dense media quite easily if you don't watch out. I have seen the effect you are referring to when they are quite compressed in the jars. Also, watch out for your jars getting too dry due to the above mentioned radiant heat.
Best regards,

I have central air which is on often, and if it's not, there's a house fan. I live in the North East.
Did you compress the BRF/Verm. mix very much? I used a very fine grade of vermiculite(only brand I could find) and mixed it thoroughly, however I tried not to smash it tightly into the jar because I read that it's not recommended.
Also, watch out for your jars getting too dry due to the above mentioned radiant heat. It's odd because the bottoms are completely colonized and I read that if the jars had dried out, the bottoms probably wouldn't colonized b/c they're closest to the heating source. So I'm not sure, I'm probably getting too worked up(again), however better safe than sorry.
Thanks for the advice and any other would be helpful.
