overwhelmed on the peninsula: just moved to PNW * 1
    #25530456 -

New to the site, new to PNW, new to hunting.  I literally live 15 feet from the forest on the ocean side of the Olympic peninsula and have been amazed at how easy it is for me to find mushrooms--usually within the first 25-50 yards of the forest edge.  Identification has been tough (I got very ill trying a tiny sample of what I thought were liberty caps).  I'm posting some pics of things I found today (including in the yard) in hopes of getting some input, direction, or anything helpful--I sure don't want to be that sick again (was worse than eating bad shellfish, which I experienced firsthand).  My attempts at spore prints have not gone well--generally little to no results.  I'm a newbie, so I might be breaking protocol with this post (I have been reading on the site for a couple of days, but still a newbie prone to newbie mistakes)--feel free to flick me in the head if I mess up procedure and I'll fix it.  Thank you...doughboy

Welcome to the site! I highly suggest you do not eat any mushrooms without being 1000% sure of what you are ingesting.
My best guess on 2,3 and 4 is mycena sp. but I'll wait to be proven wrong by other IDers

Hey! I'm in the PNW as well. Lots of mushrooms to find! There is a good link in one of the pins that shows which mushrooms grow in our state. It's been helpful to narrow down what I'm looking for.

thanks for the welcome and the advice (I know better, just let my enthusiasm cloud my limited id skills--and paid the price for a few days).  the possible Mycenae have hollow stalks, which fits (I think).  I don't know what to make of the purplish caps (it gets lighter as it reaches the edge of the cap).  regardless, they don't seem to be the type of thing I'm looking for, so I guess it's back into the woods tomorrow.
