Moving to PNW.....and I have a question please?
    #3553657 - 12/28/04 07:04 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I had a very shroomy cube summer in Florida this past year. I LOVE shrooms! But now,,,this summer I will be moving to live with my cousin up in the Seattle area.
My question is.......Is it as easy to find active shrooms in WA as it is in Florida?
I have never picked or found anything other than P. Cubensis. Are P. Cyans as common as cubes are in the south?
Just curious, and thanks for any good replies.

i dont live in seattle but i live near sf. The sf shroom scene is probably 1/10th of what they have in the pnw. I would have to say it is very easy for the trained hunter to find actives up there.

the shrooms there are just as easy to find, you got a better variety to hunt and most are better than cubes you should have alot of fun

I have to say, other than the ten or so I found, on Harstine Island, across the Puget sound, from Seattle,  the only Cyans I've found, were in an odd location, about 50 miles north of Seattle.

The first 'rooms I found there were under a thickly lined blackberry bush, which was under a pretty large Alder tree.  I don't much about Alder sub-species, and I'm not a very experienced hunter. I THINK it was a black adler, but I might be off on that one.  The only reason I say it was a black Alder is that the bark seemed dark.  This particular patch probably held about 100 shrooms at once, in it's peak, this Fall.  Its range was large though, so the small patches, were evenly spread.  I have to say that this particular spot contains shrooms in difficult to reach places; On the side of a 15 foot mild cliff of mud and branches.  I didn't find, until the end of the season, that there were actually alot of cyans, in the grass, at the bottom of the cliff.  I would say, unless you have alot of experience and good eyesight, hunting for cyans can be very frustrating.  You're probably used to bending or crouching down to snip a shroom.  Unless you are going to be IN Seattle, practice lying on your belly.  Dont leave your raincoat in Florida.  I'm not saying you won't see people lying on their bellies in Seattle.  If you do see any, just ask the where the nearest shrooms are.

i live in yakima which is about 2 hrs from seattle on the other side of the mountains. so i dont have any active species over here. anyway seattle is a good place for active mushrooms. like syanesso said, there are actives growing everywhere in the city. just look in grass areas around businesses even if the area of grass is 4x4 ft. ive heard the park is a really good place to hunt also. be careful though because sometimes there are cops looking out for mushroom pickers.

no, not grass areas, woodchips.

I'm sure that Surwin will take it upon himself to learn the new species correctly by reading old posts by experts.

I've found the most cyans in grass that happens to be near woodchips. I agree with Syanesso, there are actives on virtually every block of the city. If not cyans then stunzii, baeo, etc.
