It was 82 degrees today when I found these, weird weather we've been having.
Happy hunting and good luck out there!

folks, what the consensus? Is it a waste of time to be hunting western WA until Mid OCT ( for fall Woodlovers)? As I have taken my walks around Olympia Portland and Seattle...everything looks pretty dry

BUT im seeing pictures of goodies...are these cultivated? super microclimates?

I'd check in areas with sprinkler systems.

Both. Also, sprinkler systems. Not only that, some areas are naturally cooler or wetter. On a stretch of coast I pick, one area for whatever reason is usually 10-20 degrees colder. I still haven't figured out what it is yet especially since the warm sea is less than 25 feet away. At 40 degrees everywhere else, anything there is frozen. It's trippy af, lol. I'd imagine it's similar "pockets" that have fruits now. The first of the season always start there and it's the first area to stop fruiting.

A lot of these things are not solely dependent on water and temps. People found cyans in our dry heat wave month of May.

Soil liquefaction can also occur in loose woody/lignous soil, wherein pressure brings water from the water table to the surface. This phenomenon is usually for areas around the sea or around stressors (earthquakes, slides) but to an extent occurs naturally as water is pushed up beneath the soil. I'd venture a guess large mycelial mats reach incredibly deep into the soil, perhaps far deeper than roots.

It's just a hypothesis on a few counts but it's one of the few reasonable explanations. Clay also retains water much better than soil. Perhaps these areas have a few things going on.

And not only that, some I'm sure aren't as dependent on water/cold as some people may believe. Humid air condensing in the early or late hours may be sight unseen by people going around in a sunny day.

Adden, Thank You for the Insight!... I know some areas that are cold and wet all year... I guess riding a bike has its advantages in that way...got some ideas now

Holy smokes. Granite falls area. Anyone hunt around there. Im curious to see some mushrooms.
We had some very heavy rain last week and before that. And the temp dropped around 50° . im thinking its a go. I checked some of my old spots closer to seattle/shoreline. ... Nothing. I think the city got to them or other hunters and pickdd it clean. But who knows. Its been years since i hunted seattle.
Advice please?
Thanks.

Non cultivated patch, old reliable area but new patch. This area gets new chips added by the city regularly.

It's not too early but most casual hunters won't find em yet unless you're clever with where you look, under bushes, grass, north sides of things in shade.
