active gyms? New Jersey * 1
    #25517400 -

Habitat:
found in wood debris where my local reservoir recedes. all growing from wood. 

Gills:
orangey brown

Stem:
thick same color as cap. from 3-6 inches

cap:
round yellowy orange.


Bruising:

i see bruising on pins.

No, eat at least 10gs if you're looking to feel like you ate around 3gs of cubes, and don't eat them.. make a tea. Gyms are pretty bitter. They're slightly different from the psilocybe's effects, they have a different entourage effect caused by kava-like ketones. They're more relaxing.

I have had tea from about 5 grams NJ gymns. Very active. 10 grams would probably be the beginnings of a high level trip.

I've had gyms from PA that looked just like those. It took a lot of gyms for me. But potency is always going to vary.

Yes, potency always varies, but for all of my NJ finds 10 grams would be overkill IMO. I'm also probably a lightweight, so there's that, lmao

Gymnopilus spectabilis is the species, or something genetically similar.

ok so after picking about 500 of these things in somewhat of a frenzy, i am now going through them one by one. I am sceptical that they are all gyms (some didnt have pins). i am worry if i might have picked a few galarina marginata by accident, or any other possible look a likes. what are some of the differences between the two? i am an amateur shroom hunter. heres some pics

These look like gyms based off of their scaly texture on the caps and the texture on the gills. Gyms are pretty easy to tell from galerinas, so read up on the characteristics of both species and make sure you know how to identify both. Also, as hard as it is, refrain from going on a picking frenzy. It often leads to throwing away the whole batch due to fear. With gyms, I recommend just going for the bluing pins and the big guys growing beside them just to be sure they are active :smile:

thanks for your advice! i would hate to have to throw them all out though. I did a fair amount of research on gallarinas and they are of wide variety. is there any easy or obvious way to know the difference between the two? ive read that gallerinas are mealy? what does that mean?
