Agar contams and what to do next

Hi all. If I have a agar plate that has a small amount of contaminants Should I
A- just cut the contams out?
B - cut out the good stuff and add to a new clean agar plate?
C- start from scratch with the spores onto a clean plate?

Cut a sample from the leading edge furthest away from the contams and transfer to a new plate

B, but with Bumholio's advice. You cut out a tiny biopsy.

Repeat until you have nice looking tissue.

Aw man I hate multiple choice! I am going to go with (c) no (a) wait wait let me think its (b) yea (b) is the answer.

Always remove the good myc from the contam to a new plate. And do it in a still air environment. After all these years RR still rocks...BUT. If you have a contaminated plate, never do a transfer in front of a flow hood (should you have one). You don't want to blow mold spores around, -unless you like endless headaches.

That is good advice I haven't seen that video since 2010 when I first started. I just thought it would be good for the OP to see.

Thanks everyone for the advice. The plates have been sitting a while and not really growing like I thought they would. They have been sitting around 30 days. I left them all to just observe what would happen over time expecting the contams or the mycelium to out grow everything. But they have all just stalled at around 2cm diameter circles. Finally have time to take cuttings but think maybe this lot arent the best? or is this slow growth normal?

30 days? No Bueno my friend. Maybe your agar recipe is not working? Not enough nutrients to support growth? The source of your spores are not from a domesticated variety? Any spores on any agar medium worth it's salt would have been all over your plate(s) by now. (Unless you tried incubating them in a refrigerator). You never supplied a picture which ALWAYS helps. I (we) want to help but need some info. What makes me suspect your agar is that your myc stalled, and nothing else (contams) started growing on it after all this time. If you taped your plates , forget the contam angle. But still, the myc stalled. More info?

Sorry still no pics. I will get them up when I can but at the moment there isnt much to look at.
In a still air box I opened some of the plates up where the growth had just stopped on everything myc and contams. The agar was super thin and dried up. I have taken some more cuttings from here into clean agar plates and will see what happens. My agar plates are from an education supply store online- general agar plates. The spores are from a reputable supplier online. They have all been stored on a shelf with indirect sunlight. However at nights the temp at times got low as 10c and didnt always get to 22c during the day. Now the weather is warmer so should get a night low of 17 and a day high of 25. This may help.

Although I do want results the whole process is quite fascinating. I have kept all the plates just to keep observing what will happen. Even tried to rehydrate a couple. Others I have tried to kill just the contams with iso. I am keen to see what happens.
