grain to grain transfer?

how much substrate would one use, would a table spoon of colonized grain be enough for a quart?

Someone I know used about one tablespoon to inoculate 6 pint birdseed jars and they were fully colonised in less than a week! Just shake the jars up real good and get the moisture content right. good luck.

how soon after you inoculate it do you see growth, my buddy did it 2 days ago and sees no new growth, and its only supposed to take a week?

Well, I do not know how your friend prepared the jars. Nor do I know the conditions they are kept in. There might be a reason that your jars are going more slowly. After 2 days this other persons jars had grown noticably. If you care to share maybe you can be helped.

Temp. could be a reason. How warm does he keep the jars? Maybe it was exposed to a contam during the transfer?

205 ml water ,200 ml rye grain..pc for an hour..incubating 83 degrees...the multi spore jars he does takes about 12 days to 100% colinize but for some reason these aint doin shit..he said hes just gonna leave em colonize hes in no rush thx for the responses

well i just found out this kid inoculated them on the 16th,,so its only been a day..goddamn kid is so annoying..

My friend used birdseed and found it easy to get the moisture content right. He has never worked with rye,so , good luck.

the TMC recommends 1-10 ratio for G2G transfer .but the original or master jar was started with only a couple of small agar wedges, so 1 Tbl. spoon would work, just not as fast .
i've seem in the gro-log forum others using as much as 1-5 ratios .
more = faster = less chance for contamination to get it's big foot in the door . :smile:

I've done two successful grain to grain transfers...both with different types of mycelium.  I always use a pint of colonised rye to 4 pints uncolonised.  But this IS overkill!!  My jars all finished in four days though....but i could easily do 8 with a pint and they'd be done within a week for sure!  I find grain to grain is the way to go because colonisation is done sooooo much faster. :grin:
