Stalled wbs jars. What to do now?

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a good day and thank you so much for the advice in advance. So I have quite a few wbs jars that are coming up on being a month old that have shown no sign of growth for a few weeks now. Prep was your basic straining to get all the unwanteds out and then slow cooked until 5% bursted, the only thing I can figure I did wrong with the prep was cook them to long, it didn't get mushy but I did have a few jars get pretty mushy on the bottom but I don't think that's my issue as all the jars have stalled and it was with a few different batches of bird seed. I have had issue with stalled/slow/and no growth at all with wbs. My last couple of batches did really good (except being super slow which is the norm for me:( so I thought I had it down which is why I pumped out so many this time but after this I'm getting pretty disheartened. My plan was to start working with agar to isolate so I can get faster growth and better yields but after this I'm starting to think about going back to cakes since I know I can have way more success with that and then spawning them to bulk?
Also, I shook two of them over a week ago and they have not recovered at all.

So really my question is what do I do with all these stalled jars?!?

And what are your opinions on spawning cakes to bulk?

how long and what pressure did you PC them at?
Also did you incubate?
and photos? especially of the post shake.

Working on uploading pictures.
Pc for 90 minutes at 15 psi
Incubation was in my SAB with a blanket, did not monitor temp

Could have been something with the innoc?  Maybe spore syringes light, but most likely seeds too wet maybe?  Keep us updated, and yep pictures will get answers from the pros quick.

mushy seeds dont magically become inedible, they cause issues down the road, if anything they colonize faster, at first.

what % is colonization at and how much if any standing water is in the jars. water can be overcome at a mild risk by turning jars onto their sides and rotating once a week

I'm thinking you're prepping to wet/ dry... get some photos up, and walk us through details on prep... do not incubate, that's outdated misinformation and causes more issues than anything... top of the fridge, or shelf works great, allows for fresh GE, and ambient ~12/12 lighting... check dates on the threads you're looking at as practices evolve rather quickly and errors are often repeated from habit

Jars were inoculated with multiple syringes including two prints, all showing growth so it's not the syringes. Most jars are around 15% with no standing water in any jars. I'm having issues with uploading pictures, I'll try again tomorrow when I have wifi. My grain prep is to strain to get all floaters out then very light simmer until I start seeing a couple burst kernels then strain strain strain, lay out on sheet to dry. On these particular batches I used a hair dryer to get my moister content where I wanted it then loaded jars and pc for 90 at 15. I left them over night then took them out shook and inoculated

I've always been better off soaking WBS for 12-24hours and skipping any simmer/cooking, sometimes mushy and usually too wet.

After the soak, strain, mix in a small amount of verm. I also don't bother to take any "unwanteds" out unless its a stick.

I would suggest you skip the WBS and use whole oats or rye berries/grain I say this because everything you did sounds right so I would assume it is a water content problem. Rye and oats are much easier to get right for a beginner. Soak for 24 hours strain and into the pc and oats are less than $15 for a 50lb bag. Your post sounds like you are asking if you can get the jars to recover and colonize. Unfortunately if they have stalled it is over for them.

I soak and simmer until the milo  (larger of the 2 smallest grain, red to brown)is al denté, and pat the bottom of the strainer until it stops dripping, pc 2 hrs for quarts, 90 minutes for pints... they'll do fine between 65-75... I'd guess you're too dry :shrug: incubating is a bad idea, your jars will be a few degrees warmer from metabolic action... I'd shake the hell out of them to distribute the colonized grain throughout as evenly as possible, and shelf it ..  . If in 48 hours it's not done anything,  start over... IMO, any grain is going to have more nutrients than needed, and thus any grain is as good as any other, it's about finding a prep that works for you

Exactly what he said!! I suggested whole oats because I think they are easier to find just about everywhere. There are throw backs to them mainly they are larger so they don't give as many inoculation points. What I would do is find out what is easiest and cheapest to get where you are. And then learn how to prepare them correctly.

Teks generally call for 1/4"... I'd guess the hair dryer the culprit, the grains are still visibly moist when I load my jars... oats are suggested to be dry on the outside, but would still avoid hair dryers

I only have one gas exchange hole which I use to innoculat? I cover that with micropore tape... Is that not enough for gas exchange and will cause drying out?? I  have felt like my jars start to dry out,, could that be a reason for slow colonizing times also??

I would agree,, that plus the long cook time didn't help me at all. I'm looking for rye berries today to try out
