Anyone here ever been in a Homeless Shelter
    #25394108 -

A friend is going to send me money sometime today to pay my phone bill then I'm gonna call the shelters around here today or tomorrow. Hopefully I can get into one. I was trying to make it by without one but It's just too hard so I'm gonna try.

If anyone here has ever been in one, what was it like for you?

- You won't scare me away from it. I just got out of jail so whatever it's like won't be worse than that.

Why are u looking for a shelter when u should be looking for a job?

I am looking for a job. But I haven't showered in over a week and the cops have kicked me out of a few places. Also not having to shoplift for food would be nice if a shelter had some food.

I'm going to call the food banks whenever I get my phone activated sometime today to see if they'll help with that.

I have a list of places to apply to in person (in person they might hire me right away) but I fucking REEK right now and look homeless. I'm going to see if I can shower at someone's place too.

It's just that it would help. I think you'd have to be fucking insane to want to go through this shit instead of having a job. Those people probably have severe mental issues.

I’ve been in a shelter in Calgary. As long as you plan on leaving asap, it’s fine. What worried me the most when I was there was getting sick, since there were hundreds of people sleeping side by side and hygiene conditions were almost nonexistent. Good luck!

This is great advice. I also got a job washing dishes

In a few months I was managing a hostel. Just get yourself together!

I was homeless 10 years ago. Literally living out of my truck with my dogs in a garage at a friends house and my daughters living with their cousins for a month.
I'm female, and educated, but I was almost ready to give up.
I made it because a coworker let me live in her spare room until I got on my feet. It took only a month, but let me tell you, I busted ass that month. Got my dignity back. (Husband left me & the kids high & dry, literally).
Find a church, ANY church. Go to the office or anyone that will talk to you and ask what they can do to help you find work and a place to live.Be humble, respectful, honest. People are willing to help, my friend. I'm living proof.
God Bless:heart:

Hoping for best to all of you.
How many kids Ginger Amy?  Ive got 4 myself.... Just became single dad about a month ago.  Stayed with family first until we got us a place.  I never thought this would happen, that drugs would overpower her.... Shes so sick she doesnt even realize how fucked up she is.  And those drugs changed her .... Like night and day.
But hang in there.  Being a single parent is hard.  Makes all past struggles seem trivial.  But not fighting all the time and them not seeing fucked up things makes me keep on....
At least a broken heart still beats....
All the best for you all.

I have not.

So far in my travels, I have been able to have a decent roof over my head, hostels, hotels, and apartments.

my friend i used to hang out with has been living in a tent for the last four years maybe
it's cheaper then living with his folks apparently, he'd rather work once or twice a month and make 300bucks then have a job that cuts into his hours
if you don't want to be homeless here you really have to work like 48-50 hours a week
if you want a house you need a 2nd income

I've met more than one person that said they felt more comfortable in prison than being homeless, because at least in prison you've got rules and structure and while you sleep, you only have to worry about one person doing something to you while you sleep. If you're homeless there are endless possibilities for fucked up shit to happen to you.

Women being homeless is a joke. They're not seen as threatening, there's a ton of lonely old guys(and women) that aren't rapists that'll give them a place to stay. Guys are seen as too threatening. Predatory gay dudes might offer you something, but other than that, you've gotta have the gift of gab. Most guys that end up homeless are socially retarded to some extent at least. If a person had the will power, they could talk themselves out of being homeless quite easily just by meeting people. But most dudes aren't good at talking. Not that good at least. It's an issue of will power too. Most people just don't have much of it, that's the reason for eugenics. There are too many people in the world. We've chosen quantity over quality.

Ive often thought how much easier things would be if i went back to prison. Its not really living a life i keep telling myself. It really doesn't get much easier than that especially when they will give you all the ding biscuits(pills) you want. Zombieland
