Mormons run a big chunk of the MLM game.  doTERRA, Young Living, LuLaRoe, etc are all owned by Mormons and headquartered in Utah.  I’ve heard from folks out that way that say being in an MLM scam is pretty much a way of life for lots of families in Utah.

You could say that missionary-based religion is MLM.

One thing thats good to have (of many uses for many oils) is a vial of clove oil in your fridge. Should you have a dental emergency you can numb yourself effortlessly and keep numb until at the dentist (or riding it out until the nerve dies if you can't afford care I must add for the US :frown: )

Using genuine vanilla oil in your cooking instead of vanilla sugar will upgrade whatever cake or dessert you make with it to Gourmet level.

You can fashion a vial of cheap lavender oil and a cappilary straw (a straw that draws up fluid) into a discreet bathroom air freshener that lasts for months on end.

If you are not averse to synthetics, "fragrance oils" as opposed to "essential oils" are stupendously cheap.

Also - buy essential oils you want more of abroad in develpoping nations that produce them. Western retail is an epic ripoff, there often is a 5-50x markup. With common oils like cinnamon you often pay here for an ounce vial what you can get a quart bottle for, free shipping, from China.

There's tons of legitimate uses for essential oils.. unfortunately like any unregulated market with lots of money involved, there's going to be a bunch of snake oil salesman and unscrupulous people. My chick is pretty heavy into them... I'm not so much. She actually does the Young Living thing, but she doesn't treat it like a MLM.. just as a way to get a few free products and a little extra money on the side and just grows it organically. But she doesn't believe in them as a "cure" for anything... just as things that can help 'treat' some things and some that are useful replacements for toxic chemicals around the house (like cleaners) and like everything you have to use your common sense and do your research. Obviously, substituting a young child's asthma medicine for essential oils is retarded as fucking hell. It is unfortunate that some people push them as a complete alternative to medicine or a CURE for anything when it's not and then some people fall prey to that retardation. They can be a complement to medicine in some cases but shouldn't be used as a replacement. Unfortunately lots of people don't do their research and will just listen to whatever someone tells them.

Yes, we’re in agreement on lots of things.  I also believe that essential oils have plenty of valid uses, and I think it’s sad that so many people are falsely selling them as cure-alls.  It’s a shame what some folks are doing to the oils.

I’m not too crazy about Young Living though.  Their “seed to seal” thing is bullshit.  Bills of lading are public record, and you can see that they’re importing their oil from China, just like most other companies.  They’ve been fined for illegal trafficking of rose wood oil because they bought from illegal harvesters in Peru.  And they market their oils as “therapeutic grade” when in fact there’s no regulatory agency that can bestow such a certification. YL’s recently deceased founder was a lifelong scheister and conman.  The whole company just seems unethical to me, and that’s without getting into the extremely predatory and exploitative nature of MLMs.

The company I discuss above, Young Living, sells their rose oil for as much as 58$ per mL.  Buying oils through an MLM is super expensive because a chunk of your money has to go into the “upline” (the people above you in the pyramid).

I tend to get headaches if I am around strong scents for prolonged periods.  I have a feeling it has to do with the other chemicals added to things such as scented candles, although it is just speculation on my part.  If I didn't get headaches I would use scented oils frequently.

Scented candles and other scented things don't use oils usually, but often synthetic perfume like stuff which can definitely cause headaches. Cheap scented candles do that to me too.

Essential oils actually help with headaches sometimes IME, and ginger/lemon and others are great for nausea.

I have a collection of oils. I find they are useful for various things. Tea tree oil is great for itching, for example. Its good for other things too. Lavender oil helps with that too. Some are very relaxing some stimulating like lemon oil which is pleasant

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

Hey Asante,

I don't have the time or space to be able to diffuse the actual essential oils.

But I do grow 6 varieties of mint and lemon balms and when needed I use the real, actual plant to enlighten my senses.
Not as often as I'd like, though.

I also use basils, tons of rosemary( love these) and have several huge lavenders.

I also practice raspberries and oregano and thyme, etc. I grow almost ALL of the herbs, except for unfortuunately the weeds.  I'm 100% legal
