So... taking stock of my cloning/ strain isolation supplies after a liason from said activities, and i realized i've misplaced my agar. I look at this as an opportunity to develop a new way of doing isolations. back in the undergrad days, i did some protein electrophoresis work using potato starch gels, which were made with 100% potato starch in a buffer solution. they solidified just like agar does, but at slightly lower temperatures. so, i was wondering if anyone has tried to do pitri dish work in a gel matrix without using agar (using starch or gelatin), or, alternatively, if anyone knows of any good sources for such work offhand. I discovered that several people have done gelatin work, but couldn't find any actual teks used.

I have been wondering for a while if gelatin could not be used but with a highter solids content such as in jello jigglers . The gummy worms and bears do not break down at very warm conditions . The only reason that i could see that would not work was maybe not enough water content . I am sure interested if someone does some work on this , in fact with this information that sakura has guided us to I have new hope on my ideas.
