I have a major thing for girls that speak French...

and in fact, all my choices are based on the criteria of being able to talk to/hit on the women of a particular ethnicity.

French
Spanish
Japanese

I want to visit Berlin and see the remnants of the wall.  I remember crying when the wall fell!  I am 41 YO and always heard about the nukes and the life of a commie.

As a Dutchman its very normal to speak at least two languages. We kinda have to since nobody else on earth speaks our language

Most people here speak Dutch (obviously) and English. My French is decent enough to travel France without problems but finding a job would be too much. I can understand a lot of German and a bit of Spanish.

My partner has a thing for languages. She speaks Dutch, English and French fluently. Quite a bit of German and Spanish and she used to be pretty decent in Arabic too

Software:
C
Assembly
Basic

Not counting software:
Spanish
Chinese
Arabic

Just being practical here, honestly I'll never be fucked to learn another language unless my job dictates it. I have some Saudi friends from college that would be shocked if I could speak their jive  Like Chinese It seems very difficult for some reason.

Reading and writing Chinese is tough.  It takes 20-30 times as much work to learn than English takes.  The way you learn Chinese is to write all day.  The pronunciation is tough to get, too.  Even people who were raised speaking both English and Chinese have thick accents.

My wife is Brazilian so in order to communicate with her family I'd like to be fluent in Brazilian Portuguese.

After that, maybe Spanish, just because it can be useful.

Probably Chinese because it would be good for a job to be able to communicate with our manufacturing overlords.

I think Amsterdam is a really cool place.  I've never been there, but it has the coolness factor like Hollywood, where I'm from, or New York.  I lived in this historic small farm town with less than 2000 people for 15 years, so I'd like some big city action again.  Amsterdam is the bomb, I'll bet.

you should learn Spanish mouse. I did, and I am really proud of it, plus its similar enough to English you'll understand many structural and pronunciation things.

you can do it, and it would help you with your boredom and impress the lady

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. It is sexy as hell to hear a woman speaking in her native tongue when you don't know it, IMO.

I spent most of my childhood living in Holland. Used to speak it almost fluently. Then I moved to England and at school they jammed my head full of French, and then after three years, German.

Now I can't remember any of those languages.

Assholes.

They say that learning Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew is the best.  I have a friend who is Greek/Aramaic, he calls himself and he babbles in tongues and makes connections with those three languages, plus Latin.  He likes to speak Greek with his parents, and was raised speaking Latin, Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew and English.
