H.R.1865 - no more Craigslist personals?
    #25087558 -

(I live in the US)
I just looked at craigslist personals, and they are showing a message:
Essentially;

US Congress passed H.R.1865 - we are unable to continue personals!

Because of sex trafficking? It's definately an issue. But...

Seems like a violation of first amendment!
Don't you think?

they just want more criminals
prostitution doesn't condone that capitalist life style
i'm actually offended the democrats didn't try to stop it, we should stop calling them liberals and wake up, they're are deep state oligarchs and banking cartels
also hooking is going to become a lot more dangerous with street walkers and johns being involved now that women can't just escort from their own home/website

fucking capitalism making people sell their bodies and then giving them a place to sleep by locking them up

backpage is owned by a dutch company but they're also using the cloud act to sift through peoples personal data

Are they unable to continue because it would be outright illegal, or what?

The basics of it, from what I understand, is that now a website can be liable if a user on it partakes in certain illegal activity. If a sex trafficker posts on the site, craigslist could face legal action for allowing a forum that they could operate on.

Jesus tap-dancing christ. I had no idea. After the reddit thing I'm now beginning to wonder - will places like The Shroomery/Drugs-Forum/etc be able to carry on in light of this new law?

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

Very good point.
But mushrooms are a bit more ... victim-less?

Still illegal, nonetheless.

It sounds like it's fairly specific to prostitution/sex trafficking related stuff.

Yeah, it's a sex trafficking bill. The focus is sexual abuse/crimes towards children, prostitution and trafficking in general. I should've specified that when I stated "illegal activity".

Where I live now, sex trafficking is a huge issue. There are constantly women who get kidnapped or go missing after responding to job listings or personals on craigslist. There are even signs posted on utility poles with "Work offered, quick cash" and a number that are from sex traffickers.

While I understand trying to limit the scope of traffickers, I don't agree with this bill at all. Policing the internet can become a quick slippery slope.

Huh weird. I've had a couple casual encounters off craigslist. Met my current girl off it actually.

That's unfortunate.

That being said I never paid for sex or anything off there. Usually just lonely people looking to not be lonely for an evening.

Many subreddits related to the discussion of deep web markets were taken down. unrelated to sex trafficking and solely on drugs

They also took down a Kratom swap/sell sub as well as a Vendor sub from what I've read...

Reddit has just used it as an excuse to clean house a bit. Just some smaller "unwanted" subs mostly though it seems.

Just aswell Craigslist has been dwindling for years and has been taken by force by scammers. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later.

History shows us that when things start becoming illegal in a governments eyes the open talking just takes on some sort of secret code or incorporating a type of camoflage.  Fortunatly, or unfortunatly, this internt seems to be both pandora’s box as well as a can of worms.

That said, if anyone threatens the shroomery we will deliver upon their doorstep PUURE HEELLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!:kingcrankey:

What the fuck they got rid of R&R?  Did they just erase the whole site or something?  I thought it was just m4f etc.

Disregard.  They moved Rants and Raves to the Community section.  Whew!

On a crummy note, H.R. 1865 might kill the internet as we know it: https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/03/23/596460672/craigslist-shuts-down-personals-section-after-congress-passes-bill-on-traffickin
