Too bad that Americans hate unions so much.

I recommend you watch some youtube on the actual appalling conditions in many sweatshops.

In more than a few instances you would have been better off as a domestic slave in a good household than a worker in some of the worse sweatshops out there.

Well with the way our economy is set up if we told businesses they couldn't offshore their work for cheaper labor they'd take their business over to those cheaper countries and then offshore only very specific work to us.

Or hike their prices up to insane levels. They already sell their goods for more than 1000% of the production value, nothing would stop them from producing them at American wage levels and then still marking up the sale price +100% or more. We have laws against that but it's not stopping them.

The first issue is why I mentioned the 20 year shelf life.  As it stands, it would be foolish to forego selling in the U.S. market.  Who are you gonna sell to? Russia?  India?  China?  The EU might even follow suit.  Surely we could put some pressure on NATO allies to do so.  Even in the unlikely event that the Big Internationals abandon the U.S. market, someone else will gladly take their place.  That's how capitalism works.  When there's money on the table, someone's gonna make a play for it.

The second issue is mitigated by the fact that people don't have infinite money.  Sellers will always seek the highest price they can get, in order to maximize profits.  This is true whether labor costs are high or low.  Prices aren't set by the cost of labor, they are set by what the market is willing to bear.  For this reason, sellers will have to raise prices as minimally as possible when making up for higher labor costs.  Then again, If more people have more money to spend, the market may be willing to pay more.  Either way there is an upper limit for the price of consumer goods.  If they get too expensive, people simply won't buy them.

Yeah, force business to jump through even more hoops then what is step 2? Step 2 is always whine and bitch about how much prices have gone up. "boo hoo stuff is too expensive, make them sell it cheaper"

It was one of trumps (few) good moves to lower corporate taxes. The old rate was forcing companies off shore. I heard apple,  google etc are based in ireland now. We need to tax money made here no matter where headquarters is.

the problem is that they can use creative accounting gimmicks to show that they're losing money here and that their foreign subsidiaries are the only ones turning a profit.

Outright slavery might be better

Remember how democrats were originally slave owners and supporters?

And now they hike up the regulations, which brings about these slavery sweat shops.

What a coincidence!

Remember when the racist democrats switched parties and became republicans?

I have no idea why conservatives love to bring up this point about how democrats used to be the party of racists. Things changed. The Democratic Party evolved to become the party that supports civil rights. The democrats who wanted to cling to their racist ideology left the party and became republicans, which is why the south is dominated by the GOP. That's some shameful history for republicans, especially in light of the redemption of the democrats

It's really an intellectually bankrupt argument to try and claim democrats are the ones oppressing black people. You should be embarrassed posting such garbage.

We have teams of forensic accountants to put a stop to that. Plus the threat of criminal sanctions.

Its a lot more workable than trying to make other countries follow usa labor laws.

The6 can mark up the prices, bt that doesnt mean anyone will buy their products.
Countries like Japan produce quality products at reasonable prices without overt exploitation

Let them stay overseas, bar US companies selling here afer moving overseas, they go out of business and we buy from loyal non-tax dodging businesses.

nobody suggested forcing other countries to follow US labor laws, just companies that want to sell goods in the US. Also, It would be a minimum standard, not an upper limit.  Anyone would be free to go above and beyond the scope of US law.

Thats the nuclear option and it will blow up in our faces. Driving away companies even more than we are doing means fewer jobs, fewer choices and higher prices. The mom and pop hardware store will gladly sell you a hammer for $30 that you were paying $10 for. So now we have high prices, few choices and less jobs.

By lowering the corp tax rate and plugging a few loopholes we use the carrot rather than the stick and use the stick too if they don't obey.

What company is going to leave the largest economy in the world? Good luck with that, they'll just be forced to pay taxes

Im only talking about US companies dodging taxes by relocating their HQ to another country while still inevitably selling 90% of their products in the US market. They need the stick, not sweet treats for stabbing us in the back.

There are definitely sweatshops in America.  How do you think that Apple puts all of that shiny into your phone?  With highly paid software engineers working reasonable hours?

You're high as fuck if you think this example is anywhere remotely near the level of a true third world sweatshop.

To ensure production, the CEO should pay managers a decent wage. In this way, they can keep the pace hastened and the production high.

Another good tip we hashed out.

I never said that they were.  I have a feeling that you're lumping China in there though, in which case you're wrong (and might not even be thinking about the third-world).  And working in the US is definitely a lot worse than working in Switzerland.

Apple does have sweatshops and they're all overseas.

I believe their buildings are wrapped with suicide nets.

Yeah. If your job doesn't make people kill themselves right then and there every week it's probably better than slavery and sweatshops.
