Personal Predictability

Editors Note: This thread was started in response to the line: "how predictable you are" and many similar responses over the years. Now try people, try really, really, really hard NOT to get into whether you love me or loathe me or in fact say anything at all about me and try; really, really, really try to stay on topic. I have faith in you guys that you can do this.  :rolleyes:

Dear Shroomery,

Is predictability in a person a negative trait as some have intimated? Should one waffle all over the map, popping up hither and thither like a jack-in-the-box? Is inconsistency in normal relationships (as opposed to something like competition - where it might be a good thing) and behaviour to be desired? Should we strive to fool one another with constantly variable personal facades? Should we be willing to be willy-nilly will-o-the-wisps of chameleon-like character?

Familiarity brings with it comfort. It's nice for things to meet my expectations.

On the other hand, weird shit can be rather interesting, not to mention humbling. It's good to have both, I guess.

human beings are very bipolar in nature:

we love having certain things being very very consistant (paychecks for example)
but generally we prefer things being a little chaotic (like when your lover decides to be a little rough in bed from time to time) just not so chaotic that we feel like we're losing or grip on things




we need the stability and certainty of quite a lot of things in life...but things that are more luxury then neccessity had better keep changing

Fuck predictability, variety is what it is all about! :grin:

Personally, I have some depth to my character and while I have normal tendencies to certain actions, my mind is a huge storage facility that can whip out anything it needs to.... I imagine it would take someone many many years to really get to know me as I truly am since there is so fucking much to who I am. :grin:

And they'd be in a race agansit me as well because I am constantly changing and evolving.  :tongue:

If someone is truly that predictable they are not open to change and they are stagnating! Things change and people grow. Growth is k3y. :lol:

Of course, some people are predictably unpredictable as well. :smirk:

Consistency doesn't have to be comforting either. What makes someone comfortable is subjective.

I'm all about destroying limiting boundaries in my mind so I am free to truly express myself.

At any rate, predictability. Predictability requires a vantage point outside of what is being predicted. To God, everything is predictable, as he knows everything and knows how everything will play out. :lol:

Free your mind and do away with pre-conceived notions of who you are!  :nut:

I think all humans are predictable, if you took some ones posts recorded their phone calls and followed them around for 6 months took record of what they ate and built up a personialty profile on them then i guess you could pretty much predict with in good reason most things about them.

there should be plenty of link on the net that should support this one but an exapmle would be that market research proves this.
