Shroomslip I dont see any reason to believe that the windspeed of hurricanes might be increasing. only the amount of precipitation they pick up, because the oceans have been warming slightly.

I only said could. Not that they are. I don't know if there's a way to even make a remotely accurate estimate of how much rain a hurricane will drop over land but we should probably update the way describe storms to account for that info as well. There's a lot of opinion on how much higher hurricane winds could go. Some scientists believe 200+ isn't out of the question.

Yes, there are talks about a Cat 6, but it likely won't happen any time soon, if at all, despite how strong rare cyclones are. Cat 5 reaches maximum sustained winds at 157 mph or HIGHER. A Cat 6 would have to have winds starting at 180 mph or higher. There's only been two cyclones that I know of to reach that limit. For now, I see no reason for it.

And as far as Irma's path, we still don't know. Her path is based on the low pressure and the intensity of the high pressure. If it stays where it's at, then I'M FUCKED. But she's still a week away. It's still too early to predict her path just yet.

And anything you heard about a Cat 6 is false news. That's actually been confirmed.
