Hey Anne I dont mean this offensively but this is kinda what I hate about christianity, catholisism in peticuliar.

It is sooo heavily impressed on children the fear of hell, and burning,
that they are psychologicaly messed up.

If god is there, he will be listening to us..ya dig?
I mean ask him for guidance
If you feel it is right go for it!

If it is a mistake you will not be punished.
the mistakes are the punishment

each one of us has our own relationship with god therefore each of us has our own religion, at least thats how I see it.

I read another post that said something about people putting there beliefs before there faith.. like the details before the one..

I think people need to "worry" less about words in books and think more about this song

If you truly want to do something and are capable of doing it a religion will not stop you. If practicing your extra senses is against your religion..then isn't believing you posess them in the first place against it too?

I believe we all have the same senses and abilities though some have better tuned senses. Just like some people can see or hear better than others..

Yeah, well, he was in Houston, TX, and I was in Orange County, CA.

Vulture:  ive never even thought of psychic abilities conflicting with christianity. nothing worng with it...christ had plenty of them.

I think it's a gift.

Shaggy:  I dont mean this offensively but this is kinda what I hate about christianity, catholisism in peticuliar.

Yes, Catholicism especially.  I went to Catholic church every Sunday until I was 18, and I attended Catholic school until 14.  I don't know why parents use God and hell as the "bogeyman" for when children do something wrong.  Fear of going to hell is just great to tell a child why he/she should believe in God or should love Him or whatever. But they love a good guilt trip.

i would advise against reading any one elses books on how to develope your own ability...

they will hinder you more then help.

you just need to trust that your ability is there when needed.

you shouldnt ask it to preform tricks or prove it to yourself with silly card games...

that is a distraction.

hiya delicious annnnnnie
well, if'n it's books ya want, ol' unka gnrmie gonna lay some titles on ya...

mmmmkay...

charles tart has been involved in studying altered states & ESP-type stuff for decades... _learning to use extra-sensory perception_ might be the one closest to what you're looking for, but several of his books are well worth reading (& check out his TASTE website - scientitst's reports on their experinces of altered states & such...)

lawrence le shan wrote a classic on meditation, but also wrote an excellent book on learning how to channel spiritual healing energies... (i think he also did one on the remarkable similarities in how the world is described by mediums, mystics, & physicists...)
another scientist/psychologist who has done some work in the field is stanley krippner...
there's plenty others out there, but these are quicky recommendations outa my forgettery/memory...

other ways to "dabble" or to develop your "psychic/intuitive powers"...
well, traditional methods of divination can be useful... tarot, i ching, runes, scrying, pendulum/dowsing work, astrology (several different flavors, hehheh...), etc...
not, necessarily as "real fortune-telling" (whatever that is...) but more as tools for focusing possible postulated psychic abilities, mmmkay?

but the flip side is that (according to the buddha) "siddhis" may be quite real, and as interesting as all get-out, but... they  may ultimately be a dead-end, being ultimately of no use on the path to liberation...
(and quite possibly be used for certain mischeif-making activities, as easily as for healings and helpings... hehheh...)
and some christians (& possibly others?) are concerned about "opening up" to entities who may be malevolent towards humans...

of course, YMMV...

be well
pay attention
practice lovingkindness

The more physics and advanced science I learn the more I feel like there could be "abnormalities" of what we think is reality. Don't have a decisive opinion on way or the other, really.

To improve means that a second metric after an intial baseline measurement will show some increase towards a given goal. As pyschic "abilities" cannot be measured nor demonstrated, there can be no "improvement".

As pyschic "abilities" cannot be measured nor demonstrated,

I remember reading through a phonebook years ago, and came across a section of Psychics and whatnot there,...some of the ads proudly boasted a "Certified Psychic" seal, and so on. I just now double-checked to see if there IS such a thing in existence...

And found this site..evidently related to "American Association of Professional Psychics"
http://www.certifiedpsychics.com/Psychic-Certification/certification.html

Hmm....I wonder what criterion they base their tests on to certify a Psychic..

Perhaps you should investigate.. :eyemouth:

I'm reading "Heaven and earth: making the psychic connection" and it has all sorts of advice for people who want to connect with the spirit world and use psychic abilities. Except there's a picture of the author on the cover and he looks a little too smug to be trusted.

i wouldn't let your Catholic upbringing hinder you from exploring your natural gifts. i agree that everyone has a 6th sense, or intuition as some may call it, to varying degrees. the Bible was chock full of psychic and other unexplicable phenoma, even astrology and necromancy (sp?)... back in those days i suppose they were all called "miracles".

definitely if you feel a higher calling to explore your gifts, you should by all means do so. you never know what your gifts may be until you try to cultivate them.

Maybe I'd look "smug" too if I had the same knowledge/abilities/gifts as he does; that the majority of people don't...

psipog.net

one of the most important events ever in human history was the creation of this website, greatest website ever.

as to the morality of developing psychic abilities: i only recently realised i was trying to develope psychic abilities for all the wrong reasons. remeber to keep it clean.
as far as i understand, as long as you're not messing with non-human entities being psychic is okay with the vatican.
little known fact, one of the cardinals (i think thats the postition, bishops maybe?) in line to be the possible next pope was trained by an ex-government psion, so i think you have nothing to worry about.

as far as my own experiance goes, when i finally made the breakthrough to have my receptivity to other poeple's thoughts and emotions become automatic, i experianced truama/paranoia do the constant stream of shit that comes from poeples heads. if you're going to learn stuff start with shielding/grounding.

anyways, see you in the future annie, remeber that if you get into high level stuff it can become dangerous unless you really know what you're doing.

edit: my nick at psipog chat is kayimbo. and if you want to do a shroomery practice let me know.

True enough. One simply does not have to worry about the morality of non-existent abilities.

More important than the discovery of electricity, hot running water, refrigerated food, penicillin, internal combustion engine, heart transplants, skin grafts, atomic power, mission to Mars...

on topic:

Don't waste your money on those books. I call it bullshit. But if you think you will be better by buying them, buy them! That's most important!

One time when I went to a shamanistic gathering in Siberia, things were turning on by them selfs (ie: car alarms, fans).

You cant dig up the ground over there either. Or the shaman feels it (ie: fog, bad weather).
