Casing Substrate depth

On a casing does it matter how deep the substrate is? Is more better or not?

the deeper the bigger the mushrooms
but dont go over 6 inches I say 5 is plenty but 4 will give you large fruits

ok...I didn't know that...i thought it was based on how much moisture there was in your substrate and casing that caused the fruits to be big or small.

i always go for depth over surface area,i usually only case 3 or 4 pints of WBS at a time and use a container only 10 by 6 by 6inches deep this gives me atleast 3 inches of substrate depth not including top and bottom casing layers.
i always get flushes like this,

depth will always give better size shrooms and it more efficient in the space it takes up.

I have some of them at around 3 inches and some are around 1.5...figured I would see which works best for the setup they are in.

correct me if im wrong but the substrate layer is not to exceed 6 inches and the casing layer(s) should be 1/4 the substrate depth. I plan on going deep, like 5 or 6 inches, with these millet jars and should see some very nice fruits given that all other conditions are managed properly.
