substrate depth
    #621525 - 04/28/02 05:13 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I'm Using A twin size dish pan Plastic container that is 6" deep, What would be a good depth for rye grain substrate? Should the the top of the casing come to the top of the pans? is the size of the shrooms related to how much substrate that i use? Thanks

i'd say 4" substrate layer with a 1" casing layer. you want the casing layer to be apx. 1/4 as deep as the substrate layer. the top of the casing doesn't need to reach the top of the pans. the size of your flush will be related to how deep your substrate layer is... the size of the mushroom is dependent more apon the makeup of the substrate.

>the size of the mushroom is dependent more apon the makeup of the substrate.

But also on the total amount of substrate.
