Oops...I lost my job this morning
    #2390978 - 03/01/04 11:30 AM (20 years, 1 month ago)

I need suggestions on what the hell I should do next 'cause I hate what I've been doing.

I'm an accountant, which by itself isn't so bad, but I really can't stand the 8-5 office bullshit anymore. I never was a morning person and it just keeps getting worse as I get older, so I don't want to do this again next time. Also, sitting in a room adding up number is boring as fuck and my co-workers always argue with me 'cause they don't understand the numbers in the first place.

FYI - I didn't just lose this job out of the blue. I had a meltdown a few weeks ago & threw my keys on the boss' desk 'cause it's impossible to get anything done here. Then I calmed down and went along with things for awhile, but I was 15 minutes late (again!) today & the boss is as frustrated with me as I am with him. We both agreed it would be best for me to just leave at the end of the week.

I'd love to find something I could do from home, but I don't know if anyone really makes any money doing that. I have some basic web design skills that I could improve if I needed to, plus I'm thinking about typing papers or resumes. My initial plan is to play poker online, but who knows if I can do it consistently enough to pay the bills.

Any suggestions? I know, I know...if it were possible to work at home without all this employer bullshit, everyone would be doing it. Just thought I'd see if any of you guys had ideas I hadn't thought of.

I'm actually going to stuff envelopes and mail them out for good money. Some of those 'jobs' are bunk, but not all of them. Some are legit...you just have to find out which ones.

I play poker online.  I started with play money and last month someone gave me $10 and I turned that into over $500 at the No Limit tables.

You have to be really good and have alot of money to invest up front (and can afford to lose) if you want to make a living at it.  A friend of mine is an expert player and he makes $17,000 a year at the $15-30 tables.  That is just to supplement his income.  I highly recommend getting a job in addition to taking up professional poker.  If you play for rent money it will be devastating if you lose.  (Havent you seen Rounders?)

Hell yeah, I've seen Rounders!

I probably should have been more specific about the poker, but I didn't realize there were other players on here. I've been playing the 1-table tournaments, so the most I can lose at any time is my $10 or $30 buy-in. I'd never have a big enough bankroll to play the ring games 'cause I'd be too afraid I'd lose it all in one bad session. This way, if I'm playing shitty, I lose a couple buy-ins and call it a night.

well my income is currently $0
but heya heres some advice anyway :nut:

First try and get unemployement..
with those conditions it may be hard but not impossible.

second start calling yourself "the proffesional"
Theres no job I cant do.
say that right to the mirror.

third get a crappy but fun job..~restaraunt-river whore-ski instructor-cab driver~

finally decide on what you wanna do in the future

I have found it is easy to get by on as little as 800-1000$ a month..so im sure youll be fine

Shaggy, do you own a car?  How do you pay for internet and other things like phone bills and stuff on 1000 a month?  I'm worried about being poor when I graduate from college.  :frown:

No shit! My rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in a not-that-great part of Fullerton is $875. How the hell do you get by on $1,000/month?!

First of all I am 21and I am poorer now than when I was 17
I am staying at my parents house right now.

high end rent around here is 900-200$
mid 600-900$
low 200$-600$
I guess I have just gotten used to dirt cheap rent, U can ge a brandnew 2 bedroom apartement for 550$.
at my old apartment..
400$ rent
50$ electric
50$ phone
200$ food/beer(mostly beer :nut:)
100$ gas/upkeep
100$ other bils

with a100$ to spare
It is easy to live poor you just have to keep thinking.
I worked at a resturaunt..theregoes 1/2 of my food expenses
I kept the landlady sweet on me, that way I could pay my rent late
I drove a Subaru

If you live somewhere the rent is high mayb find a roomate?
Dont worry Bert being poor aint that bad, plus you will be a college grad!.the money is bound to come eventually
peace and shroomyness

Well, fuck, now I have no idea if I lost my job or not. I'm still here, it's Wednesday of what was supposed to be my last week, the boss hasn't said shit to me about the decision either way, and he's not even here today.

While I was being bitched out, I showed my boss some of the things my co-workers do to prevent me from doing my job right & he told me to tell him when that kind of stuff happened. I showed him the stuff that happened just the rest of that day & he was blown away.

So, I think he realizes he's put me in an impossible situation and the stuff is gonna be even more fucked up when I'm not here to catch the mistakes I catch now. But I'm still always late & I hate working with these morons who keep taking shit off my desk and fucking it up or losing it so I get blamed.

Arrrgh!!! I don't even know if I have a job next week & if I do, I hate it. Fuck me...
