Could a private citizen buy a country?
    #2389642 -

Is there anything in international law, or U.S. law if you were a citizen, from buying a country? If you were able to reach an agreement with the existing government, including all fees and possible relocation of the residents (or not), would it be allowed?

I don't see why not. Private corporations have already bought this country.

Funny, even if false.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

Islands in the carribean are for sale I'd give you the link but you might want to buy the island I've had my eye on (and been saving for) for a few years. The one that Iwant is off of nicaragua, about 2 miles off shore. I suppose if I wanted to I could see about declaring it my own nation, but I don't see the purpose in doing so. I'd have to invent a postal system that meshed with other nations postal systems, and numerous other things that are required to be a nation. Total isolation from government in todays world is pretty much impossible. But, I figure at least, living 2 miles off of nicaragua's coast, I shouldn't have TOO Much interferance from the gummint.

plus by declaring independance there is the chance that the country may send a small military force to end the resistance.

I believe there is a small European country, Luxembourg perhaps, that is for lease. You can lease the whole country for a day or so for a party or whatever. Reminds me of the movie "Funny Farm" when Chevy Chase wanted to sell his house and paid the townspeople to act as if they were in a Norman Rockwell painting.
