How to hack into an admin account on any non-hardened Mac.

Okay, so this information is not illegal to post. Just want to throw that out there. It's also fairly common knowledge but I figured you guys would get a kick out of it.

First, restart the computer while holding the "⌘" + "S" keys. This will open up a command prompt.

Mount the hard drive with write permissions by typing in:
Code:
/sbin/mount -uw /

Hit enter and then type this code in:
Code:
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Hit enter and type in this:
Code:
reboot


This tricks the computer into thinking it's being booted up for the first time, and allows you to create a new admin account. A video will play, and you will need to enter in some common information, the hard part is done.

Once you are logged into your new admin account, go to "System Preferences -> Users & Groups". Click on the admin account you want to get into and hit the "change password" button. Change the password to whatever you want and then reboot.

Now you have access to all unencrypted files on the admin account you wanted to get into. The keychain password will remain the same, as otherwise you could easily steal bank account and credit card information.

Easy as that.

is this legit cause I'm a guest on this macbook that was given to me and haven't been able to meet up with the guy that gave it to me to go ahead and make me admin

Yeah, I used this all the time when I was in highschool to install video games on computers :lol:. You MUST follow this word by word, it's case sensitive and will not work if you miss a single character or space.

Tell me what went wrong and give me the responses you were given, you probably didn't mount the hard drive with write permissions.

I'm about to pick up a tank of nitrous so I'll be back in thirty, but the code I posted is flawless and time tested.

The first response you got told you you were authorized to read/write to the hard drive, the second was a fluke as I missed the "rm" part which actually deletes the file :rofl:.

Indeed sir.  but can you trick your computer into thinking it's being booted up for the first time?  That is, can you see without subjective interference?  Sir, can you see without the image?  That is the real challenge, isn't it sir?  Finding reality in the mist of subjectivity.  Can you do it sir?

No, it is not. Check out genetic programming and how it relates to strong and weak artificial intelligence development. It's the opposite of predetermined patterns of code.

Call me crazy, but I truly believe through programming we can create a better, smarter, more efficient and less corporeal species... it will take a long goddamn time, but it's possible.
